Hi, 2 l/2 post op here. You are only a few days away from regular food right? My doctor said I could start regular food at 4 weeks. anyway, a few things that I have enjoyed are: popsicles, liverwurst, chinese egg drop soup and wonton without the wontons; mashed potatoes with butter; cream of anything soup; jello; sugar free pudding; I also doctor my cottage cheese with spices, salt and pepper, paprika, onion flakes to make it spicey for a change (sort of a German thing) and cheese; refried beans. Hope this helps. Good luck. Monika Walls

I was on a liquid diet for a week then the next 3 or 4 weeks (forgot which) I was to be on pureed. Starting on day 8 I just ate regular foods but chewed EVERYTHING until it was liquid... so it was pureed anyway. Then I could enjoy eating. You must be very close to regular food so why not try it. Just make SURE it is all water when you swallow.

You can have cream of wheat or oatmeal for breakfast instead. You can have tuna fish with some low-fat mayo. I took the imitation crabmeat and put some of it in a blender. You can add low-fat mayo or, as I did, low-fat salad dressing for a little different taste. You can puree almost any meat you want - chicken, turkey, ham, beef. Just add a little broth to it to make it a bit moister. I push the proteins first, but you can also puree veggies or fruit or eat unsweetened applesauce. My nutritionist also allows post-ops to eat cold cereals at this stage if you let them get soft in milk first. I never liked soggy cereal so that one was out for me...

I love cottage cheese, but also got sick of it after awhile. If you blend it with sf jello or canned fruit it it's own juice, it gives it a new flavor. I also sometimes will add splenda and cinnamon to the cottage cheese, that is really good too. sf pudding is good and you can also add non fat dry milk or protein powder to give it even more protein.

Canned soup is so soft and mushy I never did puree it. I really didnt puree I just chewed "soft" food choices really well. This is a short phase of the process just remember that. Best of Luck!~

I couldn't stand the pureed food stage either. I ate Chicken noodle soup or vegetable beef soup and that helped, although now, at 6 mos post-op, I am sick of soups too! Good luck!

Hi Judy, Boy do I remember that feeling. I am 12 weeks postop and my doc had me on pureed for 8 weeks. What I did was eat a good bit of cream soups like chicken and mushroom. I also took mini ravioli and 'mushed" them up, I ate that the most. If you would like more suggestions please feel free to e mail me ok?? Best to you!

One of my favorite things on pureed was Italian Beef! I slow-cooked it all day in the crock pot and it was very nice and tender. I just pureed it with some of the broth and YUM! That way you're cooking something you and the rest of the family can eat. My recipe for easy Italian Beef is: 2-3 lbs. chuck roast, 1 packet Good Seasons Italian Dressing, 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning (or your own mix of herbs), garlic powder or fresh garlic if you wish, and 2-3 cups of broth or bouillon. Before surgery I used to add about 1/4 cup jalapeno peppers for extra flavor but I'm leaving those out til I know my tummy can handle it. Another good thing is pork chops pureed with a bit of gravy. You can puree just about anything, just need broth or liquid. I did not, however, do well with steak pureed with A1 as a friend suggested - I think the tomato in A1 did me in. Best of luck to you! Hi Judy, I know your chomping at the bit to get to real food, aren't ya? You should be very close...I skipped the pureed stage-couldn't stand the thought of taking good food and pureeing it. So I went to the soft stage. In addition to what you are already eating, tuna salad on crackers, crab or chicken salad, steamed white fish, refried beans with cheese, crab cakes, were all early favorites, as was all sorts of soups-especially egg drop.

Hi there, I hated this stage. I ate mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, and refried beans with cheese melted in them. I also tried (before I had lactose troubles) low fat frozen mac and cheese. Once you cook that in the over, its very very soft. Also Progresso makes a very tasty low fat cheese and potato soup that I used a stick blender on and that was filling and very tasty. I was at my Doctor's about two days prior to the end of my pureed stage and he said if I wasn't having any trouble I could slowly go to the next stage, one meal at a time. You might check with your doc on that. I had very little food trouble with the exception of a little lactose intolerance that disappeared quickly. Good luck, this will be over soon, I promise. Oh.. sugar free/fat free pudding.. it comes in great flavors and is yummy.
