Question:
For Post Ops- How much can I expect to lose after I am 6 months out. I am still

only 4 months out and lose weight fairly fast and I know it will slow down. How much can I expect to lose per month after the honeymoon stage? (I know it varies with different people) What's the average?    — Judy W. (posted on November 20, 2002)

There is no answer to your question. Everyone loses differently depending on your age, your genetics, how much you have to lose, how well you are using your tool etc. It does slow down after 6 months, but for most it continues until 18 months post-op or longer. At about 7 months, my loss slowed to 5 pounds a month for the next few months. For me this was acceptable as I am now 15 pounds from goal, but for others who are heavier, they may be losing 10 or so a month at 6 months. A better way to phrase your question is to ask people who are your height and starting weight, where they were from 6 months on with their loss. And even with that, everyone is different.

Judy, I read the other posts as well, and they are right. There really is no guideline in which to use, except to try to compare yourself to another person that is your height and was at your weight as well and is just as far out as yourself (post op), I started at 303 pounds, height of 5'10, clothing size of 28-30 pants, and shirts size 26-28, I am now almost 6 months post op and down 100 pounds, am now a size 16-18 pants and a size 20-22 top, ( I still like my shirts baggy but tucked in), The best thing to do is put your height and starting weight on the message board, that's what I did.... Seeing I'm so tall I needed some kind of guideline to follow. I do believe that the weight loss has slowed down, as I am able to eat more. I think the last 2 months it's really slowed down to like 8-10 pounds a month. I'm eating about 1500 calories a day and watching the fat intake. Drinking as much water as possible which is usually well over 90 oz a day.... I've stayed away from everything and I mean everything that made me fat... No Fries, no pizza, I'm trying to hold true to it as I don't want to become a failure to the last resort of my WLS... Best of luck to you.. P.S. Your starting weight is exactly what my sister's is how-ever she's 5'7. She still pre-op but I'm praying she gets the surgery too it's really a life saver.. God Bless and Good Luck
