Question:
I am six months post op and have lost 90lbs. I can't help, but be upset because I

have lost only about 10lbs in 2 months. I exercise regularly, and watch what I eat. I do notice when I am more vigilant with food and water the weight will start to come off, but then stop. Sometimes I think I eat too little, but this can't be true, because the weight isn't coming off as I hoped. Any advice?    — gloria M. (posted on December 19, 2002)

Hi Gloria! I have not yet had the surgery, but I have spent MANY hours reading everyones profiles, and talking to people who have had the surgery. And normally, around this time, you hit a plateau. Please do NOT be discouraged, yet be soo very encouraged that you have already lost NINETY POUNDS and in 6 mths!! That is a GREAT accomplishment, and something to be very proud of!! You will resume your losing streak, I guarantee you! :) God Bless you Ms. Gloria, and the best of luck to you!

Don't be discouraged. I had RnY on May 7, 2002 and have lost 125 pounds so far, but at six months my weight loss did slow down. I just kept doing what I'm suppose to do and the weight is still coming off. I think you are going great. Happy Holidays and Congratulations.

You figured it out yourself: "Sometimes I think I eat too little..." If your body thinks you are eating too little, it will not lose weight. It will do it's darndest to hold onto every ounce. So, eat a little MORE, but good stuff.. and keep doing what your doing and your body will be tricked and it will start losing again.

Gloria, you did not provide enough info on your diet. Are you concentrating on protein, not snacking/grazing, doing low carb and getting in 64 oz of water a day and exercising? You mention that when you are vigilant with food and water ,the weight comes off. So continue being vigilant. Also, if you are not eating enough, or often enough, the body thinks that you are starving it and it will slow down the metabolism in an effort to hold onto it-its the survival mode. Sometimes adding an extra protein shake a day or an extra protein laden meal will help kick start.

I too hit a "stop" at month 6. I was just short of 100 lbs. But to be honest, I had started eating sugar and carbs. Then I noticed that I had gone from diabetic to hypoglycemic. I cut all sugars and virtually all carbs and started eating mostly protein. I started losing again! Not nearly as fast as in the beginning but losing just the same. I discovered Gen Soy, no flavor protein suppliment. I add it to orange juice and a bit of frozen banana and strawberries. Its 25 grms protein per serving and I believe getting more protein helped start the loss again. Good Luck and don't lose faith. Jeanette
