Question:
I need advice to get me over this loonng Plateau! Any suggestions?

Had surgery 2/14/02, so almost one year. I havent lost ANY weight now for at least 2 months. I feel I can intake more food now as well, then first out of surgery..am I stretching my stomach back? I do have to admit Im not exercising or not drinking the 60+ ounces of water I should be. One of my big problems is I DONT DUMP! I can just about eat anything..in small amounts of course. Any suggestions, or is this sorta normal? Please help. Thank you!    — Tracey C. (posted on January 12, 2003)

I just got out of the same situtation that you did. I had open RNY in late August. I hit a nasty plateau in November that lasted up until last week. I tried it all - uping protien, lessening carbs, water, suppliments, exercise - you name it. Nothing worked and I had resigned myself to dealing with it. Instead of getting on the scale twice a week, I told myself that I would only do it one a day a week - it helped a little. Just as I did that - I lost 7 pounds in 5 days. Go figure! Good luck - take it in stride.

Ihad surgery March 20th- my weightloss crept at about 7 months and just picked up a couple of weeks ago and is moving nicely- I do not dump either. REMEMBER: calories in not burned up will turn to fat. So get moving- even just an evening walk would help- we dont take in alot of calires so you dont need to run a marathon to get some benefit- Good Luck

Hi Tracy, I had my surgery one week before yours, so I know that we are fast approaching our one year anniversary. I, too, have been on an awful plateau for months now. Except at X-mas time, I gained 3 pounds and have subsequently lost it and 1 more, but there I stay, day after day. And unlike you I exercise 4 days a week. I would definitely advise you to start exercising, as it is a good way to burn more calories. The way I figure it (and I don't dump either) is that I am taking in more calories than my body is burning or at least taking in too much where the body does not want to let go of any more weight. I have noticed that I eat more at meals the past month or so, and that is normal for our stage, but unfortunately am grazing especially at night, and on too many carbs. So you ask, how did I lose the 3 I gained over the holidays? I upped the water (yes, forced myself to drink more), upped the exercise (from 3 X a week to 4), and added one protein drink a day. I also cut back (not eliminated) the snacking. So, thats the key I think and if I could just be more consistent, I think the weight would start to go down again. Try the exercise and upping the water and protein and you may see some results.
