Not enough info, but I was on TONS of around the clock narcs for about 2 months after my T.T. complications. I LOST weight. Weight gain is caused by eating.

Weight gain is not always caused by eating! Lots of medication cause weight gain and water retention. I feel for you dear - as I gained 50 lbs myself in the months preceeding WLS and can tell you that I felt absolutely horrible. Check out my profile - I have terrible back problems myself. The medicine that really helped my back pain was Lortab - liquid vicodan/tylenol. I don't know why because Vicodan by itself didn't do the trick, but that's what they sent me home from the hospital with and 8 days later I realized my back and shoulder pain stopped. Of course they don't want me to continue on the Lortab, so I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon to see if he can keep me on it. To me, I'd rather take the medicine than go through surgery again. By the way - I've lost 22 lbs while taking the Lortab. Take heart - get a second opinion and don't listen to mean- spirited comments. Best wishes to you! ~Renee~

Judy, I have not heard that either. But I am on basically morphine in a pill due to chronic illnesses I have, so I understand. It hasn't made me gain weight, and should usually do the opposite. Narcotics and opiate- like substances usually cause a person to lose weight and suppress appetite. But I wonder if there is an underlying issue with gaining- maybe you are depressed? Because if you are on morphine for something, you must have a serious illness you're dealing with which can cause depression and therefore cause eating as well. Goodluck to you, I wish you the very best!

Could your doctor be trying to scare you off of narcotics? I've noticed most doctors really don't understand pain management or what its really like to live with severe chronic pain. If you're with a regular doc I'd suggest seeing if you could be referred to a pain specialist. Not only do they work more closely to control your pain but have access to a wider variety of meds & understand their complications better.
