Question:
what am I doing wrong????

I am now 8 1/2 weeks post op and have lost 36lbs in that time.I read where others have lost that in the 1st month!I don't cheat or eat anything I'm not supposed to.I eat less than 700-800 calories a day so what is my problem?I haven't lost any in the last week either.Yet, I see that people lose 10-12lbs continuously after many months post op.Help me please! Debbie- You're problem is that you are a lightweight! lol There honestly is no problem at all. I know it is so hard not to compare yourself to others on this site, we do it all the time- but try not to, it just gets you frustrated. I started at 250lbs, like you did, and I lost about that amount in the same time. I lost 10lbs. each month (except 30 the 1st) and now at 10 months I am 5 lbs. away from my goal. So if you think about it, in the long run- you will be at goal within a year most likely! You are probably on a plateau right now which is comletely normal. Try upping your protein or exercising a little more (or some if you aren't at all) and increase your fluids- that can usually jumpstart the loss again. Otherwise, it will just come off on its own anyway. Don't get worried- you are doing great. Wwe are just lightweights and have less to lose so it doesn't come off as fast as someone who has say 200lbs. to lose. Great weight loss- and keep doing what you're doing! (except try to weigh only once a week or once a month), don't make yourself crazy!) Goodluck to you :-)

Hi Debbie, I had my surgery the day after yours, so I know what you are going thru. I have lost 40 pounds as of today. I feel that things aren't going as fast as they should either. Everyone tells me that we all lose differently. WE DO. I wish I was one of the fast losers. I have been exercising at a health club too. I even started alot heavier than you. So, I do understand where you are coming from. Just keep up the good work, we are doing fine. I read others post who say the same thing, then when they are a year or so out, they have done fine. Let me know how it goes. Sandy

Well, I have you all beat! I am the winner of the slow losers! I am 4 1/2 months post op and exercise nearly every day and have only lost 54 lbs. I am tired of people asking, "how much is it now"?, as I don't have any more good news. I am disappointed and feel that this surgery isn'tdoing for me what it has done for everyone else. Sorry to be a bummer, here, but you all are doing great! Keep up the good work.

You're doing great Kiddo. I am 10 weeks out and have lost 40lbs. Like one of the previous posts said... you (and me both) are lightweights and we tend to lose our weight slower. As it was suggested to me about 2 weeks ago when I freaked out about my "slow" weight loss... make a graph and you will see a constant losing trend. That is what is important. Good luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

No one else has mentioned this, so I will. If you are staying under 700 calories a day, you may not be getting enough to eat. Remember all the diets you went on pre-op? The more of them you went on, the harder it would get to lose. Your body gets so used to being in starvation mode, it will do everything it can to conserve. Try upping your calories a couple of days a week. I'm not talking about getting in 2000 or anything like that. But if you usually get 700-800, try going for 1000 one or two days a week. Once your body realizes it isn't being starved, it will be more willing to burn the calories you are taking in.

Hey Debbie! I feel the same way. I lost 34 the first month and only 13 the second. During the second month I stopped eating. And My doc told me if I wanted to lose more then I needed to eat more. It was a hard concept for me to learn but now that I'm eating more, I'm losing again. Don't give up you're doing great! But eat!

Debbie...I just think you are "rushing" it a bit. It is normal to have a big weight loss in the first month but you should not expect to lose more than 10 pounds a month after that.
