I had de-caf coffee in the hospital and now at five weeks, I drink two cups
regular every am.9with my docs permission). I have not had the other
stuff. Not a latte' or wine drinker. I love shushi but would not want to
put the rice in my little pouch. It is not recommended.

Hi there! I started back on my lattes at exactly 5 weeks, I just make sure
to make them with skim milk, and I also add a half shot of sugar free
vanilla syrup, it is a good start to getting the milk for protein and a
caffine buzz at the same time! Some people say that caffine will make you
feel more hungry, but I am a little over seven weeks out and have not found
that to be true in my case. Infact I have not felt any feeling of hunger
since the surgery......I hope it stays far far away! :)
Congrats on your surgery!

Hi! I was drinking coffee (decaf) after about 10 days, and now I have a
cup of regular every morning. I occasionally stop and get a latte', but I
get it with skim milk because regular milk does a job on me (if you know
what I mean..lol). I think I had my first Latte' after about 6 months, but
probably could have had one earlier. Now Sushi..before surgery, I couldn't
stand the thought of it, but after (and this is one of those weird
"post-op" things) I CRAVED it. I was probably about 4 months out
when I had it for the first time, and it was delicious. Wine - No way can
I drink it...too much sugar and it knocks me on my butt after 1/2 a
glass...Good luck!

I forgot to address the wine question! I have had a couple glasses of wine
since surgery, (7 weeks ago) The first time was also at the 5 week post op
mark. I had red on both occasions and had no problem what so ever. I do
not like sushi at all so sorry I cant answer that one for you! Sorry for
the two posts......

Josii, I was 9 weeks post-op when I tried sushi. The fish part was easy to
chew but the rice went down like a rock. It was quite a while before I
could eat any breads, rice or pastas. I waited until I was 4 months
post-op before I started drinking coffee again (non-fat mochas). The down
side to my loving mochas is there's so much sugar but if you don't over do
it, you should be ok. I don't drink wine so I can't comment on that. I
had my first "drink" when I was 7 months post-op. One drink got
me smashed! ;o) Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck!

Josii,
Hi there, thought I would post on in, Lets see I started doing coffee about
about 1 month post op, at first the decafinated kind, now it's full lead. I
have no problem with it, I drink about 20 ounces of it a day ( I know allot
more then normal) but make up for it in the water intake.
The latte's I haven't ventured into, I'm thinking they may be to sugary and
cause me to dump, (Which I try to avoid as much as possible) so I haven't
ventured down that road, am scared too.
The wine, girl I"m a cheap drunk "1" glass and I'm too the
curb, I went out to a christmas party and drank 1 glass, and was toasted,
nope no dumping just really drunk and had a high that lasted for like 4
hours, (I"ve never had that before) So I make a vow not to do it that
often, once a year if that, If I touch it again.
The Sushi, I tried it about 2 months ago, and found that the rice was
either not cooked enough or too too sticky cause it basically stuck inside
of me, and made me feel green ( PUKE ) ... I have yet to touch it
again.....
Hope this helps,

Josii, I don't drink coffee/latte or eat sushi, but, I am a wine drinker.
I have been drinking wine since I was 2 mos post-op. I have a glass of
wine with dinner every so often, maybe 1 glass every other week. It makes
me very tired, not much else. Liquor is another story all together. Good
Luck! Heather (open rny 8/15, down 102lbs)

My dietician has told me no alcohol or caffeine until 4 months out. Not
sure why, but she's pretty firm about it. As for Sushi...I think that's
what I miss most. I haven't tried it yet, but look forward to it. You can
get the fish w/o the rice (called sashimi) and that should go down nicely.
Cafe Latte is simply milk and coffee, get skim and you should be just
fine... I've had it (decaf) and have had no problems. Bon appetit! (2
months post op, lap rny)

I started drinking coffee around 3 months post op. I love my lattes! I get
them with skim milk, two shots of expresso :), and sugar free syrup. I had
wine between 4-5 months out-red/dry has less sugar & seems to work best
for me. Best wishes with your process.

I drink de-cafe everyday and have since about 3 mos post op.
I use 2% milk and put Torani sugar free syrup in it. Torani comes
in many flavors, like my favorites, hazelnut and almond. The syryp
has zero calories, zero carbs, zero anything!!!!! It just
tastes really good. I found it when I went to the Starbucks
near me and was not willing to pay their prices but noticed
the brand name. I get it here in San Diego at the Smart and
Final stores or at import stores. It is more expensive at the
import stores @ about $6.00 a bottle. I get it for $3.99 at the
other store!! I also use it in my protein shakes as it comes
in raspberry, strawberry, black cherry and other fruit flavors.
It makes the protein shakes palatable.

I drink a latte (I make at home with a Mr. Coffee espresso machine and add
SF syrup with skim milk) every morning and when I get to work I drink a
small pot (4-cup). I drink decaf but occasionally forget to order decaf
out. I find that I have craved coffee after surgery. I drank coffee
before surgery but not as much.

Hi Josii, Funny that you ask this question, because I had all 3 today!
Sushi for lunch (california rolls) that went down perfectly it's all about
the chewing, I had a decaf, sugarfree, soy latte (i'm extremelyyyy lactose
intolerant so I opt for the soy lattes with 2-3 packets of equal in them)
that was great. The thing is, I can't do caffeine anymore, it gives me
dumping symptoms, so I stick to decaf. Since we are really sensitive in
what we absorb, I almost get a caffeine rush from the decaf so you might be
able to be satisfied with the decaf which is better for you than regular.
(the caffeine is a diuretic and will cause you to lose some water, so
you'll have to up your water intake to compensate. It's a toxin so if you
can be fine without it, even better for you!) and then at night I went out
for drinks with a few friends, and I had a glass of water and a glass of
red wine. I got a little whoozy from the wine, and I drank about half of
it! LOL It's funny because before I'd need an entire bottle to work!
Anyhoo, life is still good after surgery. In fact, it's even better: I
was wearing a cute outfit including a pair of jeans 5 sizes smaller than I
would have worn 6 months ago!! Yep life is great, Just don't overdo
anything and you'll be fine. Also, the first time you try any of these
things, make sure you're at home or a good friend's house. You don't want
to be at a fancy sushi bar, barfing up your sashimi! lol Good luck and
enjoy the ride! :)
