Hi Trisha - my nurse/counselor says a MINIMUM of 65 grams of protein per day, broken up into three meals (we only absorb 30 grams at a time). However, I was getting that amount and my last screening for pre-albumin showed I was barely in the ok range, so I have to try for 100 grams per day. I've gone back to having a protein drink in addition to my 3 meals per day. Good luck!

The general answer is a minimum of 60 grams and though it varies from doctor to doctor that is the average. I average 80-100 grams per day including shakes and have never hit a plateau and am within 10 pounds of my goal at 9 months post op. I have also noticed that the long term, very successful post ops (years post op and staying at their goal) here seem to keep their protein intake way above 60 grams per day.

I get in a minimum of 75 grams per day, up to 125 grams. You need to have your albumin level checked every three months after surgery to make sure you are taking in enough protein... if you start at 75 grams per day minimum, then three months after surgery you get tested, you can adjust up or down from there, okay! Good Luck! Be SURE you see a nutritionist about this before and after surgery, though, okay?? You really need someone to help you watch out for malnutrition for at least the first year...

As a very very distal, I take about 180g in supplement. I do eat protein foods, but don't count the protein content.
