Hi, 20 pounds the first month is normal. You have another 17 months of prime losing time! :)

Nancy, Don't get discouraged, that's what everyone told me. It's hard though. I'm almost 7 weeks out and have lost 30lbs. I was not real happy because I'm kinda' a "heavy weight" and thought I would lose more. I have been eating right, walking my tail off and getting my water in. Guess what? Finally this week the scales caught up with me. I knew all along that I was lossing inches but I wanted and needed to see the scales move. They finally did after 3 weeks of almost no movement. Just exercise and eat enough so your body doesn't think it's starving to death and believe it or not the weight will come off. You'll probably get on the scales one morning and be down 5 or 10 lbs. just like that. Also, don't weigh every day, weigh once a week. That helped me a lot. Good Luck!!

Hi, I had my RNY on Dec 4th 2002, when I went for my 6 week exam, (which was really 8 week becuz it was cancelled at 6 week becuz drs had all come down with the flu)I had only lost 21 lbs, the dr went ballistic and again explained everything I was probably doing wrong and what I should be doing which is eating every 2 hrs. He told me food got you here but food is going to get you thin again. He even told me tobuy a watch with a beeper set it for every 2.5 hrs and eat. at the same time I was tired and had heard about all this energy we are supposed to be getting after surgery, I thought WHERE'S MINE? well I went home and started doing what he told me paying attention more to the food and not the water, but still dringking a lot of water, within another 6 weeks I had lost 48 more lbs and since then it has been steadily going down down the scale I have now lost at 10 months (really 8 months) after not losing much the first 2 months, I have lost 151 lbs, OH and the energy it kicked in one morning about 10 weeks out and has been going strong ever since...Good Luck and Hang in there everything will get better soon...Take Care and if you need to talk write me at [email protected] Bye, Cinde

STOP COMPARING YOUR SPECIAL UNIQUE AND WONDERFUL BODY TO ANYONE ELSE'S!!! I really want to shout this out to every single person on ObesityHelp.com! There are lots and lots of us out there who had open RNY and lost between 18-21 lbs. in the first six weeks. And there it is! Guaranteed, next weigh-in you will have lost some more. And the some more. And then some more. Be at peace, be patient, stop comparing yourself to anyone or anything besides...you. - Deborah (open RNY 10-25-03 -24 lbs)
