Question:
12 y.o. obese, can you help?

Hi! Not sure where else to turn. Since obesity tends to run in families I thought maybe someone here might could help. My 12 y.o. daughter is about 5'2" tall & weighs about 180. Problem: I can't find anything for her to wear to church. Not anything she'd dream of wearing anyway. We live in a very small town so there is no selection. Having been off work 6 months with the chemo, I can't afford to shop those outrageous stores that do have her sizes. Everything is too low cut. She's just now like an a-cup bra. Poor child is SO like her mother was.
If anyone out there has a child that fits this description & might have ANYTHING that she could wear to church or otherwise, please email me. I could get her measurements if need be. I'd love to find her something for Christmas also. Xmas may be pretty much limited to clothing this year & only because it's a necessity & it's all we can afford for now. She also loves jewelry & feathery, frilly stuff like purses.
I'd be more than happy to reimburse you for shipping & small fee for items if you feel you could help me out. I don't have the energy, time or money to shop & will be having surgery Dec. 16th & off work another 4-6 weeks, so I'm kinda in a bind to get these things done. I'm not looking for charity.
I've always given our clothes to the charity box here & they get shipped out of town. No where to shop here for used clothing. I keep trying the local consignment shop, but no luck with her size. I estimate her to be about a size 16or XL, but can measure if you have something that might work.
Having been overweight all my life, I know how hard it is for her when we try on clothes over & over to no avail or they are just so ugly or "MawMaw" clothes. I feel so bad now that I can go to the consignment shop & find me a cute top or pants to fit & just gets to wear an oversized t-shirt with stretch jeans.
Like I said, I'm not looking for charity. I see overweight girls dressed really cute on T.V. so I know their are clothes to fit them out there somewhere. Please email me or post a follow-up & I will get back with you. She has to wear the same peach colored broomstick skirt with a peach t-shirt every Sunday & I know it is embarassing to her. I've just started going to church this year & have been blessed with my health after cancer. I don't want anything to make her feel uncomfortable so thay she would want to stop going.
Thanks in advance for any help or info. As always, I wish my AMOS family the best wherever you may be in your journey. God is good ALL the time. — Belinda W. (posted on November 20, 2003)

I have lots of dresses and skirts from size 16 through size 22. I loved wearing skirts and dressing up so I bought lots of dress clothes and now do not fit in any of them. Some of them have never even been worn. The only down fall is they might be too long but all are very easy to hem. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you are interested. The clothes are not what we call "grandma clothes". I was once there trying to find clothes so when I did I bought them. 6/27/03 292/202/172

Brenda, I also have some clothes that I would be happy to donate. Although, I don't have a lot of dresses, I do have some stylish clothes in the 16-18 range. Feel free to e-mail me if interested. God bless.

Belinda, I have clothes that I surely could donate. I know exactly what your daughter is going through. My mother could not afford to clothe me when I was a teenager either, and I always had to wear used clothing, or it was made for me, and NOTHING ever looked good. I have sizes ranging from 16-20 in pants, and some nice blouses & skirts. Please email me if you would like them. Good Luck and God Bless! :)

Belinda: While I don't have anything to offer you in clothes, I was wondering if you had a JC Penney near you? Or a JC Penney catalog? They have really cute clothes for plus size girls, and the clothes aren't trashy looking. They go up to a 16 or 18 plus. They're stylish and fairly reasonably priced. Good luck hon...

Iam 21 and have a ton of clothes that I will be getting to small for in the next year. I was an obese child so I know how it is. Is she an 16 child or women size because there is a difference. I have a ton of tropical print capri's she could have for the coming summer. They are fun and young not to mention some rather nice tops. Unfortunately I don't have much in the dress or winter department but let me noe buy summer if you can use these things.

Brenda, I can so relate to how she must feel. I would love to send something to you to give her for Christmas. Just e-mail me with an address and her description (i.e., color or eyes and hair) what colors she really likes, and I'll get my daughter-in-law who is very stylish to pick out something for her. And you are right.............God is good ALL the time.
