Question:
If I get pregnant and no where near goal, can I still lose the weight after?

I may be pregnant and I am 8 months out. I would welcome the pregnancy as I have always wanted children, but is it possible to still lose weight after I have a baby? I still have a long way to go.    — tpalmer (posted on December 8, 2003)

My sister became pregnant at 6 months out of surgery. She didn't lose any weight during or after the birth of her baby. Her lovely little girl just turned one, and my sister still struggles with this issue. She still had about 85 pounds to lose. She wanted a baby more than anything, but she is still sad about the loss of her window of opportunity. This may not be the case in your situation, as everyone is so different. I wish you the best with the birth of your precious baby!

Hi Tracy...I want to say yes it is possible and I am living proof! I became pregnant way too soon after surgery. I thought to myself "well you screwed things up now, didn't you?!" I put a fork in my road that was all. My husband and I had tried for 5 years prior WLS to have a child but nothing worked, not even meds. No explanation except I was diagnosed with PCOS. I continued to lose the first 4 months and didn't gain any weight until the 35th week of my pregnancy and to make the pregnancy even more exciting and amazing...I was pregnant with twins! I had a very healthy and very monitored pregnancy. I took a normal prenatal vitamin, I didn't need anymore supplementation. Both babies and myself were very healthy at the birth. Savannah weighed 5 lbs 8 oz 19.5" and Samuel weighed 5 lbs 13 oz 18.5". I gained (after the inital loss) only 20 lbs. It was all baby weight. Within 2 weeks of having the twins I lost 40 lbs. I was 205/210 when I got pregnant and now 7 months later I weigh 165 and am still losing..it's alittle more difficult losing the weight now but not because of what I am eating but finding the time to exercise, especially with twins! My husband is buying me a membership to our local pool/health club for Christmas...he said I'll have to find the time now...good thing is they do have a babysitting service and all the sitters are cpr trained/certified. So don't worry if you are pregnant...just drink plenty of water, eat smart, walk and most important...take your vitamins and keep all your doctor's appointments! Good luck!!
