Question:
Has anyone has luck with bcbs covering a tummy tuck?

Well i just got new insurance and im thinking of looking into plastic surgery. Im wondering how bcbs is at covering it. Im also kinda wondering if i could have it. I know im not at goal. I dont think ill get there. Its been over 2 years and ive stayed around 180 to 187 for the past year. Which is ok with me since i know how it feels to be 315 where im at now is much much better. Do you think ive lost enough weight to have one? Im still cubby in the stomach area. Cubby and it hangs lol. Well sorry for ranting. If you have any info thanks in advance..    — Deanna B. I had BCBS and they covered my TT. I had to appeal to level two tho... at level one they had a 'urologist' look at the request.. DUH! anyways... BCBS has their requirements posted on their web site... so you can see if you met them... then just appeal!

The answer just depends on which BCBS company you have your policy thru - each one is different. Mine is Anthem BCBS out of Virginia, but all claims are paid out thru BCBS of Texas (I live in the Houston area). Anthem approved me for a tummy tuck on the first go around just based on the pictures the surgeon sent in. I have no rashes or anything so the policy must cover reconstructive procedures due to disease (morbid obesity). <p> About the weight, I think that if you have stabilized at 180-187, and you are happy there, go talk to a plastic surgeon about getting a tummy tuck, especially if the excess skin is bothering you. I think most surgeons just want us to be at a stable weight, not necessarily at goal. You have done great with the weight loss!

I have BCBS Community Blue PPO of MI and they covered my tt on my first request. They did not cover the belt lipectomy portion though. By the way, I started at 367 and lost to around 200 when I had mine done. He took off 18 lbs. of skin. Good Luck!

I have BCBS PPO of MI and they covered the TT and denied my LBL. I had no problems getting approved on the TT. When I went in for my consultation I had not yet hit goal(was very close though) and they said as long as I was stable for a few months it was fine. Good luck!
