Question:
2 bites and cramps and throwing up

I took 2 bites of scrambled eggs and cheese and vomited and then had gas cramps all day until 1am. I took GAS-X and didn't help until several hours later. I had dry heaves all day and night as well. Worst night of my life. Is this dumping? How can i avoid this pain again? lorie bolden    — lorie bolden (posted on June 20, 2004)

Hi,. How long has it been since you had surgery? I'm 3 months out and cannot tolerate eggs at all. Did you prepare the eggs or did you have them at a restaurant? I had eggs at a restaurant and got very sick off the first bite. I realized they used a lot of oil to cook the eggs. I dump on high fats. Have your tried anything else with high fat content? Hope this helps.

well, I tried a hard boiled egg.two weeks after surgery and I had a cramp in my gut, that was so painfull, I then tried to drink sometime to help the egg go down, and that was the worst thing I could have done,I ended up vomiting and that was horrible. If you scramble an egg I use a little butter.but I have added ham peices and cheese but can only take about 4 bites and I am done.Wait the 1/2 houe before you drink anything and then see if that helps.Eggs just might not be something you can handle just yet.Good Luck.

Lorie...you don't mention how far out you are from surgery. I had a stricture in my stoma and had to have it stretched somewhere around 10-12 weeks post op. I'd had nausea and vomiting and a really uncomfortable feeling after only two bites for 3 weeks. I kept putting the doctor's office off (they wanted me to come in and I kept thinking it was something else) because I thought it was too much drainage during the night filling my pouch, then I thought it was eating too fast, then I thought it was my medicine, but finally I gave in and had the EGD and they found the stricture on the stoma and put a balloon in it and stretched it out. It really helped. Now, one other thing...I've tried eggs every single way there is to fix one and I CANNOT eat an egg. I've tried poached, soft boiled, over easy, hard fried, and hard boiled. I get deathly sick every single time. I have taken eggs completely off my list forever. I just can't eat them AT ALL. Hope this helps...also, you should probably call your surgeon and describe your experience to them. My surgeon's office staff and my surgeon are extremely helpful and never get upset when I call them. Good luck and God bless.

It says on your profile that you had surgery on5/18/04. your only a little over a month out? Eggs are very difficult for us to eat early on. We have a tendence not to chew them enough...because they are soft. They do not dissolve if we dont chew them...problem. You probably had your first bout of being "blocked" you will feel sick as H**l until the food passes. If it goes on more than 24hours..see a doc. What I have always done to check for a blockage is drink some water...if you have to throw it up...your blocked. I am great at removing my blockages..Keep drinking water..keep throwing up. It will come loose.
