Question:
Has anyone tried Pure Pro Protein Supplement?

I just bought some Pure Pro Protein Supplement. It has 40g of Protein but it has 180 calories. Is that about the norm from protein supplements or should I be looking for one with less calories? It has no sugar and no fat. Thanks for your help. Donna    — DeeDubbs (posted on July 17, 2000)

Donna, Protein has 4 calories per gram; so the protein supplement with 40 grams of protein has 160 calories just from the protein. I suspect there are 5 grams of carbohydrates that make up the remaining 20 calories (carbs also have 4 calories per gram). So your protein supplement has a great deal of protein for the calories. However, 40 grams of protein at one time is really too many to ingest. You will probably only want to use 1/2 a serving at a time which will make your calorie intake 90 calories per drink. It's a really good caloric deal if you like the drink. It's great that you're reading labels and thinking through calories and deciding if something is a good caloric "bargain".. that's the way to do it!

This is an excellent product, especially calories to carb ratio! Because it's smooth, it's easy to just sip along with it and enjoy it over ice (for me). This mfr also makes a powder now, that shakes up easily in water. They have 2 flavors, grape and tropical punch. These are ideal for those who don't care for the milky types of proteins or who would otherwise be tempted to turn their protein drink into a weight gainer by adding milk. We should be keeping any protein supplement to 200 (or less) calories per 30g serving, sugars under 6g. And that should include whatever you mix with it. A glass of skim milk adds 12g of sugar!

And I forgot to mention that all of these calories work FOR you, none against. You are always safer with a protein calorie than a sugar calorie! These go to aid muscle repair and rebuild whereas sugar calories (ultimately) become fatty tissue.

Hi Donna, That sounds about right, remember that is not alot of calories, for the amount of protien, and your new body will need the protien, you may not beable to drink it all either. I know I am suppose to take in 88grms. of protien a day. So that is only two shakes, or drinks or maybe two and a half. Good luck, Linda
