Question:
Looking for a good summary of WLS

Anyone know of a good summary of WLS, advantages, conditions helped and likely outcomes? I am posting to some other locations trying to help people with diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. When I TRY to talk to them somneone always seems to say, impossible, dont believe it, doesnt help, its cosmetic etc... I am loking for a single page summary so I can give it to people to read. Sendng them to this site intimidates them, its so big. I need something friendly NOT sponsored by a surgeon. This may be difficult because there are so many DIFFERENT TYPES of WLS surgeries and all those things vary per surgery type. You could probably find one page for each type, but in all my research, I've never seen a summary such as the one you're asking for. Have you taken 'em to the ASBS site? That'd be www.asbs.org and I believe there is a history shown that will include many of the surgeries that did NOT work, or were not safe to perform over the long term. Although the ASBS is not a governing board, it is an info exchange among people in the bariatric field, as well as the general public. And if that doesn't do it, the ASBS might be willing to fax you a lovely littel history that shows each surgery, why it was done, why it did or did not work, the deficiencies expected to result, etc.
