OMG ...YES! I woke up in the most awful pain and the nurse said, "Honey, you just had surgery." Well duh! But my daughter actually saw my stomach move and told the nurse who told the intern on my case and he immediately recognized it for spasms. Thank God. They gave me tordol (sp?)and it helped wonderfully.

I thought I was the only one! I had terrible muscle spasms and twitches after my surgery I thought maybe it was due to the anastheasia (sp) because I had similar problems after I had my daughter 7 years ago and had the intral thecal. I could not sleep for 2 days after I was released from the hospital and finally my Dr. perscribed me Diazpam (sp) and Demerol and that did the trick. You might talk to your Dr. ahead of time and see what he thinks.

BIG RESOUNDING YES! I had horrendous muscle spasms when I awoke from surgery. Whenever I moved or was moved by the staff, it would hit me and I couldn't breathe. My surgeon prescribed Toradol and that did the trick, but only for 3 days because it can do damage to the liver with prolonged use.

I had an open RNY in May 2002 and ditto to both the horrible spasms and the toradol. Only good news is I found the spasms got steadily less intense as time went on, by the middle of the 2nd day it was much better.

I had an open RNY on 6/18. Everything is great and I have had not had any complications. However, I did experience muscle spasms the first two days after surgery. It was the most painful thing I ever experienced in my life. I am telling you this not to scare you but to give you a heads up. The reason that I was in pain was because my pain buster pulled out of my incision and the morphine was just oozing on the outside of my stomach. Once I realized this, I notified the nurse and doctor and I was then given shots of Demorol, which helped greatly. My doctor said that I should not have been in the pain that I was, it was because of the painbuster not staying in place. So if you have the spasms or pain, don't wait it out, tell a nurse or your doctor right away. Good Luck

Oh my goodness...I had muscle spasms that made me hold on for dear life!!! For the first 2 1/2 days after surgery just the thought of air brushing by my incision was enough to send my stomach into an uproar. It was so painful. All I could do was hold on to the bed rails, press the morphine pump and breathe through it. I can clearly remember telling the doctor during one of my spasms, "Don't touch me!!! Just wait a minute...just wait a minute!!!!" After those words you would have thought I was in labor.....breath....breath...relax!!!! I did not take any extra medication other than what I was given with the morphine drip. The more I started to move around the less it occurred.
