Had your weight been at about 240 at one time (I mean for quite a while?) Because although I am not at that point yet (open rny 8/6/02), I was told that if you were at one weight for a long period (mine being 230) that when you get back down to that point, your body may think that that is were it is supposed to be. Try and shake things up, you don't say what you are eating, but if the calories are quite low, you may want to bump them up for a week or two then get back to about 1000 cals a day. Increase exercise and of course we can't forget our water! And in the mean time, focus on what you have accomplished and don't let the plateu run your life.

You didn't say what or how much you are eating. Up your protien, water, exercise and probably your calories. Your on a plateau and it happens all the time. Your body is catching up with the loss you have had already. Did you measure yourself before? I'm sure you have lost quite a few inches. Thats what I do when I plateau and I plateau all the time, but the inches melt off. It will start up again. Don't worry.

I had a two week plateau only 5 weeks after my surgery. I stuck with protein (egg whites, nuts, chicken, turkey, tofu, cottage cheese, cheese, etc...) continued with my exercise and whammo! Two days later the weight started to melt off again...so I am keeping with that program and eating a few veggies and fruits in between. I hope this helps! WLS 7/21/02 -33 pounds so far.

When you say you eat anything you want...does that include junk food like chips, candy, soda, snack crackers etc? Or are you choosing high protein nutritious snacks and meals? I think it is ok to have many small meals throughout the day if you are hungry...as long as they are not empty calories and high in carbs. You are probably just on a plateau which is normal. I am only a little over 6 weeks out..and have just gotten over a 13 day plateau. Now the scales is moving again. You should be fine, if you are doing everything you should be doing. Lots of protein, water, exercise, and healthy food choices. Good luck to you! (open RNY 7/23/02 -42 lbs)

My surgery was 6/20 and I have lost 44 pounds so far. My beginning weight was 293, I'm 5'7. I know exactly how you feel, I am getting very discouraged as well. I feel like I am working very hard with dieting, exercising and I'm journaling all my food at fitday.com, the weight is not coming off as fast as I thought it should. I can eat pretty much anything I want, I have never completely dumped, but have gotten very tired after eating the wrong food and have had to take a nap. At this point, I know the weight will eventually come off because of my new healthy ways, I guess it will just be slow. Feel free to email me, maybe we can work through this together. Good luck & God Bless!

Are you exercising?

I can't help you on this question - as I have been on a slow crawl also. Had Lap RNY on 7/15 and down about 34 lbs - and the weight hasn't hardly moved in the past 3-4 weeks it seems. I finally measured and have lost 2 inches. I'm back up to walking on a more consistent manner now that I have 'walkign shoes'. Hopefully this will work. Good luck to you.

Felicia--that one sentence worries me "I eat anything I want"....what exactly does that mean? Are you eating high sugar high carb? If so that could be the issue right there. Are you active with exercise? Did your surgeon give you guidelines to follow such as "60-75gr of protein and 64oz of water first and foremost? Vitamins and calcium supplements as well as b12 once a week? Please dont get discouraged---everyone hits a plateau--you just have to be strong and get through it. You've done wonderful so far. I'm 5'1" and had lap on 6/4/02. My starting weight was 294.5 (sound familar?) and today my weight is 238.5 (again, sound familiar?). Perhaps take a day and write down all that you are eating and doing and maybe that will help you make any necessary adjustments. I know my surgeon has told me to have whatever I want BUT no sodas or carbonated beverages as they can stretch the pouch, no fried foods and keep my diet high protein low carb. I'm not to go over 1500 calories but I dont even go over 1200. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Good luck & God Bless.

I had my surgery 5/21/02 and am about at exactly the same place you are. I started at 294 and have hit my first major plateau at 238. I have been there for several weeks now. I have been told to work on increasing my protein to get over the plateau so I am drinking a couple of Pro-Cal 100 shakes a day now. It's only been a couple of days so far so I don't know if it's helped yet or not, but I have been told it makes a big difference in getting over plateaus.
