Question:
Has anyone else gotten pleurisy after surgery?

I woke up at 3:00am with the most severe pain in my lower back only on the left side. This pain brought tears to my eyes where my surgery didn't. Each time I inhaled, yawned, burped the pain was horrible. I am now only able to take short deep breathes. My PCP saw me today and sid I had pleurisy and gave me a script for an antibotic. Was curious if anyone else had this as well? I would like to also ask why can't all the surgeons be on the same page as far as the post op diet is concerned? Some eat while in the hospital, some as soon as they get home. Some on only liquids for 2 weeks or more. Wouldn't it be nice to be all doing the same diet at the same time?    — Lisa B. A. Yup, I did as well. And I've been told, once you have it you are susuptible (sp) to getting it again. It's very painful! but the antibiotic should work pretty quickly. Can you use heating pads? Good luck to you! Happy Holidays.

I am the QUEEN of pleurisy! Oh my gosh and it hurts so bad. My pain was in my chest and I was convinced I was having a heart attack. It is, in fact, true that once you have it you are prone to having it again and again. One little tip that's helped me alot: If I get the slightest big congested (and I mean the tiniest, slightest bit) I take a decongestant right away - the sooner the better. If I don't take something right away I can count on having a flare up of pleurisy very soon. Sorry you're so miserable and I hope it gets better soon. Merry Christmas.

What in the world is "pleurisy"? It sounds a great deal like the attacks I get sometimes in which it feels alot like a gallbladder attack. I swear it feels like I'm dying (or could). Often it hurts so bad I can't talk. I'm wondering if what you guys have is what I get? The abdominal pain (sometimes on left side/back kidney area) is so bad I want to keep moving... it's awful.
