Question:
Did you get a new driver's license picture taken?

I am down 85 lbs and look totally different then I did 1 year ago when the pic was taken. When I called they told me it was 36 dollars for a new license for that reason but oddly enough if I lost it, only a 2 dollar fee!!! I just might loose mine LOL Wendy    — Wendy H. (posted on April 10, 2003)

Wendy, if you lose your license and they replace it for $2, I believe they will not take a new picture. They have your present picture stored on the computer. So if you want a new picture taken, you're probably going to have to pay the $36 fee. Lisa

Hi, Wendy - I know in NY if you "loose" your license, they reissue one but with the same photo! I don't know if your state is any different! Good Luck -

I live in PA too and last year, just after Sept. 11th I was traveling to Disney and I just knew that they wouldn't believe that it was me on the license. I went into the License Center and told them why I needed a new pic and they only charged me $9.00. They did it by "changing" my name. They just spelled out my middle name, where previously I used just my middle initial. I hope this helps!

I told them I "lost" mine because I wanted to keep that horrible picture for some reason. Here in TN I think it was 15$. I waited until I was at goal, 36$ is a lot but I would recommend it. I get carded whenever I go out and they would never even belive the old picture was me!

My license doesn't expire for another year and a half and for some odd reason I can't bring myself to get a new one. I don't look anything like my old self. Here's a scary thought....I've flown all over the country with my old license where the pic has me with long brown hair (now it's short and blonde) and I weigh 115 pounds more and NO ONE at any airport has ever questioned it. I even flew to Las Angelas on September 11th and no one said a word. Scary. I know I need to get a new one but hanging onto that old one is sort of a badge of triumph for me I guess. Now I guess I'll get smart and go next week and tell them I "lost" mine. *smile*

I am from Minnesota too, and in July I had said that I am going to be having wls and will be losing a lot of weight. They told me that they will retake people's pictures if they have MAJOR changes. Well, I need a new picture bad because I don't look anything at all like my pic now!!

Yes I am considering getting a new license to show off my new face. I never will forget the last time I got my license I was 300+ pounds and just before me was a young pretty girl getting her license. Well the officer rated and raved how pretty she was and that she looked like Miss America. Well needless to say when I got up there he didn't even say a word and I was so tempted to say ( just for meaness, "Don't I look like Miss America too?" Well it made me will so bad, but now I have a thinner body, (maybe not young one) but I want to show off my new self.

You'd better believe I got a new license--six sizes smaller, a cute short hair-do and only ONE chin! I love my new license --Jen in Florida, who also accidentally LOST her fat license. Oops.

My license needs to be renewed this year and I had planned on getting a new picture. However, Colorado is in a severe budget crunch and has closed many of their driver's license offices. If you need to take a written or driving test, you have to make an appointment up to 2 months ahead of time. On the other hand, I can renew without even going to one of the offices that is still open, if I'm willing to keep the current picture. I think I'll do that and, if the budget crisis eases, I'll go get another one later.
