Question:
I've lost steadily since the end of my first week post op.

I've dropped 65 pounds in 10 weeks.....and now the scale isn't moving. Is this the dreaded plateau? Not sure why I haven't had one till now. I'm hoping to get another 65 off by the end of the year, so I can have plastic surgery without paying another $1100.00 out of pocket. Anyone else have a similar weight loss experience? I feel like 65 more pounds in 6 months isn't unreasonable, but I don't really know. Your thoughts? Thanks!    — cherryswitch (posted on June 18, 2003)

You are doing very well but don't set unrealistic goals for yourself. You may or may not lose that last 65. Just try to be content with what is happening. I have lost slowly all along but I am happy because at least I am losing. Are you excersizing? Maybe you could speed up the treadmil or add something else to your workout. Don't try to starve yourself to lose because that seems to have the oppisite effect. Good luck.

Your fortunate if this is your first plateau. Most of us hit the first mini one around 3-4 weeks post-op. Most of us experience a series of plateaus along the way. They can last from a week or two (which technically is not a plateau) or can last months! I've been on one for 3 months now (16 months post-op). At your stage, you have plenty of losing time ahead of you. The other poster is correct, don't set yourself up for failure-you may or may not get to the 65 in 6 month goal. Just follow the pouch rules, eat right, exercise and drink tons of water and you will continue to lose for quite a while.
