Question:
9 months, 93 lbs and losing 1 lb a month - Plateau?

I think I'm on a plateau. At least that's what I hope this is. I'm losing weight sooo slowly and don't know what I can do to speed this up. I started Curves 3 weeks ago and go 3-4 times a week. I started eating nuts and drinking more. I don't think I'm eating more than I was 2 months ago. I do eat at my desk at work which could be the problem. Still If I eat 1,200 - 1,400 calories a day, I should still be losing. Just living uses up 1,400 a day for me! I'm working out, work a FT job, drive 2 hours a day and can only eat 1/2 sandwich for lunch! Anyone else have this problem? Will I lose more or am I stuck here. Was hoping to be in the 160's by now!    — Colleen S. (posted on August 20, 2003)

I started out with similar stats as you at 268 pounds. I lost 100 pounds in 7 months and then things really started slowing down for me personally. The lowest average weight I got to was 150 at about a year plus post-op and I have stabilized and maintained at 155. Do I wish it had continued? Yep! Am I pleased to be where I am now? Yes! You will continue to lose after 6-9 months but slowly. Maybe as you are exercising more you are building muscle mass? So that may be a good thing. It is frustrating when you do the math about calories, but post-op we don't really seem to fit into any of those calorie intake charts anymore as we do not absorb all that we eat, etc. I hope you keep on losing as long as you want! Best Wishes!
