Question:
Also, what is considered extremely distal, 200cm, 250cm, more?

Seems that some distals are also having problems keeping some of the weight off and a lot of proximals seem to see the same weight loss successes. I know there are more malnutrition issues with distal, just curious after reading profiles. My friend is considering the RNY and this also has been her question. Myself, I am having great success with a distal bypass.    — Joan R. (posted on November 20, 2003)

What exactly do you mean by distal? I am WAY distal, with only 40" (100cm) of common channel. They don't measure the bypassed portion with a true distal, only what's left in use. However, some docs refer to their "more bypassed" model as distal, as opposed to proximal. I'm 9 yrs, still at 100% wt loss and there are some issues that might have been prevented with correct supplementation from the beginning. We'll never know for sure.

I had 150 cm bypassed and my doc at Pacific Bariatrics called it a "moderate distal"..
