Question:
What do you suggest to loose the last 10 pounds?

I am very good about going to my surgeon for post op check ups. I am 24 months out, and still need to loose about 10 pounds according to my Dr.and my dietician. I eat regular meals, high protein, and take a protein drink in the morning and a protein bar in the afternoon as a snack. My DR and dietician both told me to cut out the protein bar, to save the calories, and I should drop the extra weight. I did that.........and gained 5 pounds. I'm considering going back to my protein bar....suggestions??? Thanks everyone, your replies are always appreciated. — penciepaws (posted on August 11, 2004)

JMO but if you are truly happy where you are at then just worry about maintaining. Maybe in time a lb or two will drop off but it's not worth stressing about to any degree. I know that I have heavy, dense huge leg bones just by the physical size of them. Consequently I will never fit into any height weight chart and truthfully have no desire to. I wear a 12 and L 99% of the time. I am tall and look plenty boney enough at this size and weight (low 190's). No one, including my doctors (WLS or internist) think I should get anywhere near the 156 that a height weight chart says I should be. They say max lowest of 180. I will be close to that after my next PS, but if I don't reach it I don't care. Anything below 200 is all I am striving to maintain. Granted a person's feeling on the size/weight thing has a ton to do with where you started and whether you have ever been "normal" sized before as an adult. Most SMO, which I was one of, have never known anything close to normal in their entire life and therefore have totally different expectations than those that can remember what they looked like at X lbs.
The obvious things are increase exercise, drink more water and eat less but do you want to spend the rest of your life on a diet for 10 lbs if you can easily maintain where you are with a reasonable routine? I know I would not want to. But each person has to decide for themselves. I would not let a doctor or dietician push you to lose that last 10 lbs if you are happy where you are at. It is not likely to affect any health condition that may still exist. I'm guessing your body liked the higher level of protein that the bar was providing. Even though it was more calories it was using the fat etc. in your body for energy with the higher protein. So my feeling is don't mess with what was working. I float up and down 2-5 lbs without even doing anything dumb. When I do the dumb eating them it's more like 8 lbs and I am miserable. The skin is darn tight after the LBL.
Go back and reevaluate why you choose to have WLS. Was it to get healthy or to be a size X and weigh X. Assuming it was the first reason, then I personally think you are there. Yes your BMI is still in the overweight category but SO WHAT. Mine is 28.1 and I'm thrilled. Especially since it started at 65.3. Enjoy life and the rest will take care of itself. Maybe your body is smarter than the doctor and dietician. Our bodies know when to leave well enough alone many times and it's our job to listen to them. Like I said, JMO.

There is a protein shake that is only 100 calories and 15 g of protein. I get it at Sam's Club. It is Advant Edge carb control. Made by EAS. Claims to have only 1 impact carb, 0 sugar and no sugar alcohol. They make chocolate, vanilla and a berry flavor. I have only been able to buy the chocolate at Sam's, but you can buy the others at Osco Drug and possibly at GNC. I like it a real lot (chocolate). Do you have a lot of extra skin? If you do you may never loose the 10# until you have PS. Good Luck.

previous poster - forgot to tell you that the protein drink that I wrote about is a premix and come in a case of 24 cans that are 11 oz each.
