Question:
What causes pain in the pouch after eating?

I am five months post-op and have been very blessed with this surgery, because I can eat anything except sugar and never get sick. I haven't had any problems at all with eating until just the past two weeks. Now it seems like every time I eat something, my stomack hurts for a while afterward. Has anyone else experienced this or can anyone tell me what might cause it so long after the surgery?    — Lisa D. (posted on December 20, 2002)

Lisa- I don't know if this is what is happening for you, but I know at about 5 mos. I got comfortable with my eating habits. I was no longer thinking about chewing, smaller bites, etc. The next thing I know I'm starting to eat too fast and not chewing well. Therefore, I would get sick. I have to think about the eating slower and chew more or I go back to old habits. Maybe this will help.

I totally agree with Cheryl... You have to eat very slowly and take your time, not only is it better for you, because you could cause blockage not chewing your food completely, bit you will find too that there is no more pain. Plus you will be able to savor the food longer and enjoy it more! A good rule is, don't swallow until it has the consistancy of apple sauce, Good Luck Suzi
