Question:
Can you please tell me what to expect attached to me after open DS.

I am having an open DS in 2 weeks. Has anyone had Dr. Cliff Deveny at OHSU in Portland, Oregon? What do you think of him? He is cheif of surgery there. He has a wonderful bed side manner in his office so far. Does he have you come out with ng tubes, tubes out of stomach, foley. He gives epidural (not in the spine) for pain controll. Please tell me more. Thanks    — Stephanie D. (posted on February 19, 2003)

Hi. My friend had lap RNY done by Dr. Deveny on 9/18/02. I saw her in the hospital and she didn't have an NG tube or drainage tubes. She just had several bandages over the "port" sites. She is doing well and is down around 60 pounds. I'm sure she would be willing to email you about it. Email me and I'll get you in touch with her. Take care. Julia

Hi, I had an open BPD/DS almost 2 yrs ago. I had to small drains(I think they're called JP, it's been a while) and they were removed the morning I left the hospital. While in the hospital I was temp. hooked up to the morphine pump and the things for my legs to prevent clotting. They were removed within 24 hrs of surgery. Really, much sooner as I was up and walking within 24 hrs. So, I went home attached to nothing and the JP tubes were safety pinned to my nightgown so they didn't bother me at all. Best wishes on this wonderful journey. I had my surgery at Mt. Sinai in NY
