Question:
Can I use Acidophilus or Melatonin anymore?
I was wondering if anyone else uses either Acidophilus for yeast infections or Melatonin as a sleep aid since they had RNY surgery? I have a yeast infection under my arm pits from antibiotics I used before surgery for ear infections and the Acidophilus clears it right up, fast too and I occasionally have trouble sleeping and the Melatonin works wonders. I was curious if we can still use these supplements.. Thanks, Cheryl A. — cherby56 (posted on April 2, 2003)

I have been using melatonin on a fairly regular basis and i am eight months
post op. Have had no problems however it is always wise to check with your
surgeon.

Hello,
I started using Melatonin about 3 weeks ago, only when my hormone cycle is
thrown off wack! I absolutely cannot sleep otherwise, even if I take a otc
sleeping pill. Melatonin is the only thing that helps me sleep and it
takes the edge off also! I order my melatonin from Swanson Health
products, and their products are discount with a great shelflife!!!! I am
glad that I started taking Melatonin again, because I don't like to take
drugs to help me sleep............I rather take herbs only! I try to put
healthy food and products in my body!!! Good luck, shirley

The antibiotics used during my open RNY caused me to develop both thrush
and a vaginal yeast infection. I was prescribed Diflucan and told to get
some acidophilus...which I took by opening up the capsules and pouring the
powder directly onto my tongue. I know that you can take acidophilus with
no problems.

Cheryl, I believe melatonin is ok. It is a relatively mild sedative and
shouldn't do any harm to your stomach. I've taken it on occassion post-op
when I need to sleep and it still helps. Goodluck to you!
