Question:
Has anyone lost a great deal of inches and while on a plateau?

Hello AMOS friends! I'm 13 weeks post op/-60 pounds/-42 inches. I'm a light weight/53 years old/250 day of surgery! I now weigh 190. I have struggled with one after another plateau, since my 5th week. I was wondering if anyone else has loss a lot of inches, while not losing weight. I'm in xl's and still 190! I haven't lost a pound since May 8th (3 month checkup), but I keep getting smaller. I exercise everyday. My goal was to lose 100 pounds in 12 months. I'm only 45 pounds away in 3 months.......I will succeed!!!!!! Anyone in the same boat...please e-mail me! Thanks and God Bless    — Hazel S. (posted on May 19, 2003)

I'm an extremely slow loser and have been on a plateau since December. I've noticed that when I'm on one of my terminal plateaus, I lose tons of inches. Even though I've only lost 85 pounds in a year I've gone from size 34/36 to 20/22 and am still shrinking, albeit slowly. Just keep doing the right thing, follow all the rules, keep moving and you'll do just fine. Good luck.

I have finally broken a 2 month long+ plateau, but I know I have lost inches in the meantime. (I haven't measured.) I have dropped 2 sizes in jeans during the same time frame, even though the scale didn't budge. Although, it could be a plot - I think someone is sneaking into the stores and changing the tags on the clothes before I try them on. (So, what has a size 10 tag is actually a size 20. LOL!)I'm a lightweight, losing slowly - down 60lbs in 6 months, but wearing smaller clothes than I wore when I weighed less many years ago.

I lose more in inches when the scale doesn't move, than when it does!

Hi and Congrats!! Don't forget that if you're exercising, you're adding muscle which weighs more than fat, of course. Also, you may want to change the exercise you're doing if you hit a plateau....my trainer advises I change my routine every 6-8 wks. Also, did you know they are coming out with "vanity" sizes? (Now a 20 is called an 18 to make the wearer feel better - guess it depends on the manufacturer) Best of Luck!!! ;)

I only lose a pound once every week or so now, but my inches have just dropped from a tight 12 to a 7/8 in just 2 weeks. Can't complain :o) Good luck!

Hi Hazel (pretty name by the way) You sound alot like me! I was 250lbs. starting out and 5'2" I went through plateau after plateau, usually one a month, but I still made it to my goal. I lost most of my weight the first 6 months, and got to 130# within a year (120lb. loss) so I definately think you can do what you set out to! That is often what happens during a plateau, for some reason you lose inches and not lbs. but in the end thats what matters most, right? Within the next few months you will notice your clothing size shrinking more and more. I lost atleast one size per month- it was incredible! I was a 22/24, and now wear between a 3 and 6! You're doing excellent- goodluck to you :-)

Congrats on your loss! I know it's a concept that's difficult to believe, but it often seems to me that I'm losing MORE inches when I'm losing LESS pounds. I really don't understand how the heck that works, but it has certainly helped me cope with plateaus. As long as I keep going down sizes, I manage to stay pretty darn happy.

I am at the same point. I had Open RNY on 1/13/03. Since then I have lost 94 pounds. Most of it I lost the first 2 to 3 months. Since then it has been frustratingly slow. The up side is that I have lost a total of 32 inches which I think is great. I have also come down 5 dress sizes which means I no longer have to shop at the fat stores! lol Hang in there ...we WILL make it!
