Dawn My blood work has been within normal limits every time I am only 17 months PO. I wasnt great about vitamins or calcium early on yet(made me sick)my labs were good the doc contributes to a very balanced diet. I have used the GNC papaya enzymes to assist digestion when i ate meat or something felt stuck and they helped alot. Good Luck to you, Lesley

I am 22 months post-op and my blood levels have been checked twice. So far they are great. I take Spring Valley Prenatal Vitamins and Citracal. That's all. My surgeon says my levels are text book perfect.

At three months post op I was checked. Everything was fine except for my iron was low. Now I am on iron supplements in addition to the multi-vitamin and calcium that I take now.

At 3 mos everything was normal but my B-12 was "low norm". I have increased it per the doc. I am about to go for my 6 mos bloodwork, I expect it to be ok since I take my vitamins and eat right.

I am 4 1/2 years post op and my blood is generally ok on most things except B12 and low on iron. Ive never heard of enzymes so no answer there. (My surgery was Feb 2, 1999)

I will be 1 year post op Oct. 30. I have two full blood workups and everything is perfect. Before WLS, I had always been borderline anemic. Fine now! I take two Centrum Silver multi-vitamins, 4 Calcium Citrates + D, one B-12 sublingual, and one iron with C a day. I do a pure whey isolate protein drink every morning for breakfast and always eat protein first.

I am 22 months post op and everything is just peachy! I was low on iron for a while, but a slow FE once a week put me back well into the normal range. My husband is 18 months post op and has had perfect labs every time, and he doesn't take vitamins but once a week... SO... everyone is different!! Neither one of us take enzymes, so sorry I can't help you there!

I'm 9 yrs. Labs wander up/down, but we tweak to keep them mid-range. Enzymes went thru our live group as a "good idea". Of course, the average wt gain was 6#. They help absorb the CALORIES, but not the nutrition. The food does not pass by the primary absorption stations (the basic 8 elements), so absorbing the calories didn't reroute the food where it needed to go. Personally, I've paid for this malabsorption TWICE. I'm not about to undo it. I have used papaya enzyme to unstick something, as mentioned. But not on a regular basis.

I am 6 years post and my blood has been okay. My blood is checked yearly. The couple of times that something was off, usually the iron or b-12, the dose of vitamin I was taking was changed. I don't know anything about enzyimes. My weight is still off. I lost 115 lbs. I went from a size 26 to a size 10/12.
