Question:
eight 1/2 months post op hit my first plateau, what can I do ?

After 8 1/2 months post op I've hit a plateau. I lost 80 pounds to date but seem to be stuck in the same number for over a week. What can I do to jump start the weight loss again? I exercise and eat correctly, but I do have trouble getting all the water in.    — Diane D. (posted on November 4, 2004)

I am more than 2 years, almost 3 years, and I am still loosing weight. Granted, it's a pound a month or so, but it is still coming off. It can be depressing after dropping 20 pounds a month to suddenly seem like you are not doing anything but fear not. Now you are permanently wired for weight loss. It just takes a little longer than what you have recently witnessed. Keep your chin up! You are a work in progress!

Try to work on your water...you body needs that water to help flush out the fat you're losing. Keep in mind that plateaus are very normal. It's your body's way of adjusting to the weight you're losing. Let your body rest, you'll start losing weight when it's had a chance to re-adjust it's comfort zone. Plateaus can last from a few days to a few months...BUT IT'S NORMAL. So drink your water and maybe change up your workout routine. Good luck!

8 months out and your first plateau! Lucky you! I am 5 months out and have been on a plateau for the past 4 weeks, that was until just these past few days and I have dropped 2 pounds. Your body is resting, getting use to the pounds you have shed. By the way, you have done awesome. I can't wait until I am 80 down, hopefully by Dec. I will reach that, but probably more like christmas. Good luck.

Count yourself lucky!! wow, I have had mini-plateaus almost all along. over a week is nothing.. a Plateau is generally consdiered no loss for 6 weeks. (but I too get really frustrated sometimes when it doesn't move for over a week) But what to do? If you're doing everything you should be (exercising and eating right) you pretty much just have to wait it out. Even when you're not losing pounds, you're probably losing inches. Sometimes the body just needs to adjust. Hang in there!
