I know you're in pain, but I must congratulate you on having managed to keep off nearly ninety percent of your lost weight after more than five years. Those are stellar results. Conservative surgeons tell their patients to expect to keep off only half the lost weight after five years. You're a shining example of success. Just check out a long-term post-op site like the Graduate OSSG Yahoo group and see how many people struggle with regains of twenty-five pounds and more after two years or less, let alone five. And you must realize that the likelihood that you will become super-morbidly obese again after all this time, given your proven ability to keep the weight off, is truly remote. Don't be so hard on yourself. And check out http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG/

Deanna Hi, at least you understand you need to stop. That is a good sign. I am a firm believer in a food journal. For the next two weeks keep track of everything and I do mean everything you put in your mouth. Now this is for your eyes only so be truthful. Keep track of your water, your exercising ( yes the big ugly work exercise ) and your feelings. Now at the end of the two weeks I want you to go back and see what you have put in your body, is there anything you can live without ??? make it gone. Are there things you can keep but make healthier, do this. Are there emotions you are eating from, professional help may work here. Do you have a support group in your area, this may also help. Are you still getting in enough protein and water, if not fix this. You can only and I repeat only fail if you do not do anything to help yourself. You have to give up 100 % to fail, doesn't sound like your willing to do that. Pick yourself up dust yourself off and do what you know needs to be done !!!! Also don't forget to give yourself a hug every now and then. We need those too. Hugs Kelly

You're human. Don't be so hard on yourself. When I eat something I know I shouldn't I try to learn form it then forgive myself and start all over again. That's a difficult task for a perfectionist, lol. I agree with the previous poster who mentioned the journal. My weight loss started to slow down so I made myself go back to keeping a food journal. I didn't realize how many carbs I was actually eating. It makes you realize just what you are eating and therefore what you can eliminate. The same is true for exercise. I was walking three miles in an hour. After keeping track of that for a while I decided I should try to pick up the pace after Christmas. Now I can walk four miles in an hour. And I added to my weight training program. I have 30 more pounds to go but my loss has slowed down so I feel like I am in the same boat as you. I remember when I had my surgery I thought I was going to be the one person this surgery wouldn't work for. After losing 145lbs now that the loss has slowed my fear is that I will not ever make it to my goal weight. But I know if I do I will worry that I will regain. So I guess there is always something we can worry about if we let ourselves. I think of myself as a recovering food addict and think I will always have a problem with food. Best wishes for health and happiness.

Hi Deanna. First of all you are not a failure! You have accomplished a great feat in losing the weight. You have to stop the negative thinking. Ever heard that saying, "if you think you are". Quit thinking your a failure. If you don't, you will always sabatoge yourself. Your a human being that has lost a lot of weight, and just gone back to some old habits, that can be easily remedied, with some going back to the basics rules. I too have picked up weight, and lost it, and picked it up again. Everytime I pick up weight,it's because I eat things I shouldn't. We all know what we should and shouldn't be eating. Get up tommorow, tell yourself you are a great beautiful person, that is going to make healthy wise decisions for her health and weight. Tell yourself that you did it before and you will do it again. You can do this Deanna, but you have to be positive. You have to love you, not your weight, not the number on the scale, but you, and once you stop the negative thoughts, and the stressing, it will all fall in line. Good luck to ya!!
