Question:
Has anyone stopped losing weight for a long while and then restarted it again?

Hi- Im 18 months post-op. For varying reasons I did not do all of the optimal post-op program that is required to lose the maximum amount of weight within the first year. I started at 285, lost 85 within the first year, and have not budged for months (Im 18 months post-op). Is this the end for me? Has anyone had the experience of not losing for a very long time (not a simple week or month plateau) & then was able to restart the weight loss again and actually got to goal (I need another 50 lbs min. to go). I am so frustrated and I need to know if anyone has been able to "correct" the mistakes of the past and begin losing again after such a long time.Ha s anyone been able to do this, & if so, can you share your strategies? How long does it take to get the ball rolling again, & when it starts, what is a reasonable expectation for rate of weight loss per week/ month? I realise this will vary a lot. My rny was Nov 2003. Thanks in advice for any advice.    — Tami M. (posted on April 28, 2005)

Hi Tami I started at 287! I will be 3 years post op in August and YES, it is possible to restart the weightloss. With that being said, it won't be as easy as the beginning but it is possible. You need to work your program girl. Protein and veggies first. Cut back on your carbs. I don't drink milk or eat fruit. I haven't drank milk since the beginning. It has alot of sugar as well as fruit. I know fruit is good for you but I don't eat it. It will cause me to have a gain. You must be diligent if you want to get the rest of the weight off. Do you supplement with protein drinks? Do you exercise? As you know, exercise is key to any type of weightloss. You want to get the scale moving again, protein protein protein, water water water, exercise exercise exercise. It's actually pretty simple but ultimately, it is up to you to USE your tool. I hope this helps some darlin. go to headbattles.com I am not affilited in any way with her but I have learned so much from her site. She is extremely informative. Check her out! Good luck sweetie! Have you been to see your surgeon, and been checked for a possible disruption in your staple line. Can't hurt.

Hi Tami, While I had my surgery in Dec 2003, I am still losing weight alabeit slower, around 5-7lbs a month now. I also started 102lbs heavier than you and I am down to 190lb now, my goal is to get to 170lbs. I exercise a bit more now and I feel that I will reach goal. You may want to go to Fitday.com and keep a diary of everything that you eat. You may be consuming more calories than you require which is not allowing you to lose the weight. And like the other poster said, exercising is the key to weightloss too. Even if you just walk, swim, bicycle, etc...just get to moving. I wish you the best. Lyric 387/190/170 sw cw gw

Hi! Oh, definitely you can reach long plateau's. I reached one for almost 2 years. I really thought I was stuck. So I threw everything out the window-eating habits, exercise, attitude-everything and revamped. My new schedule was just what I needed. I began to lose again-slowly-but losing. have lost another 30 lbs. Good luck and keep working on it. It just takes time and perserverance. Cheryl
