Question:
Do high heel shoes fit better after weight loss?

I love the look of high heels, but I can't tolerate them for more than an hour or so. I know it is because I am more than 200lbs over weight...but I want to know if it gets easier to wear heels after the weight is gone...or is it just my feet and I'm doomed to wear flats for the rest of my life?    — sugarme12 (posted on May 8, 2001)

I had my surgery 14 months ago and have lost 140 lbs (20 lbs. from goal). I wore a size 10WW shoe pre-op, and now wear a size 9 M. It had been at least 6 years since I had worn heels, but now I'm really loving being able to wear them again. I think that you can look forward to a lot of great changes in your life, including a new shoe wardrobe! Good luck!

I have wide, long feet (10W), but they are not fat, and heels have always been torture for me. I have been able to buy a 9 1/2 since I've lost weight. However, I went crazy one day and bought a pair of what I like to call 'hussy boots', with 4 inch heels, and a pair of chunky shoes with 3 1/2 inch heels. I can wear these shoes all day. Even though I'm never on my feet for 8 hours straight in these shoes, I have no problem with usual activities, including shopping or standing in line or using the stairs. I think the reason they are so comfortable is because the heels are thick as well as the sole, which takes more pressure off the feet and lower back. Also, the toes are more squared rather than pointy - a real killer for me. I don't think I'm ready for pointy-toed spikes yet, but I love the look of heels too, the way they make my legs look long and thin and the way they make me walk - sexy!

OH YES! I was 10W before surgery in low stretchy flats. Now, Im 5 months post and lost 108# (297 to 189) and wear a 9 1/2M -- The day I hit 100lbs I threw out all those ugly flats and bought 4 pairs of high-heeled open toe sandals, no spike stuff tho, and love wearing them all day. Plus the heels are a nice workout for the legs! hehehehe --- oops gotta get going -- on may way for a manicure and pedicure right now!

About 20 years ago I lost about 100 pounds down to a normal weight, and I finally could wear heels all day. Strappy sandals, anything I pretty much wanted. Now that I have gained back the weight and more ( I am waiting to have surgery) I can't wear heels at all, again. I am hoping to fit back into some of those great shoes that I saved.

I so look forward to bein able to wear all sorts of shoes now. I'm only 6 months post-op, but I used to have to wear flat nurses shoes to work, which my boss frowned upon, but my feet hurt so much It was neccessary. About 2 months post op I tried on a pair of my high heeled shoes and worked all day in them with no problems, alot of the time standing because i'm a teller at a bank. I also have a pair of sam & Libby high heeled shoes that I had bought out of a catalog that didn't fit me before, and fit me now. I started at a 9 wide, the sam & Libby are a 9 Medium, and i tried on a pair of 8 1/2 boots the other day and they fit! Candy 310 then/224 now
