Question:
Would She be a candidate for Roux-en-y? gastroplasty in 1986

My sister had an open gastroplasty done in 1986. She kept the weight off for about 12 years but has started to regain the weight very rapidly. Would she be a candidate for a roux-en-y? I am having my surgery on June 4th and she wanted me to ask if anybody that has had a gastroplasty in the past has had a roux-en-y later? Thank You for any information on this subject.    — Norma C. Why not? Although I was never a VBG, I was revised from RNY with staple line disruption. What state is she in? Some docs are more willing to redo than others.

I also had gastroplasty done in 1991 and am scheduled for open rny on June 26. So yes, she is a canditate for surgery as long as she meets the requirements for insurance.

I had gastroplasty done in 1997 and was revised to a proximal RNY last year. If she has internet access, have you friend check out [email protected]. There are a lot of us that have had VBG and have either had it revised or will soon have it revised to RNY or BPD/DS. Assure your friend she is not alone and that she is not a failure (this is a common feeling among those of us who have to be revised). Best of luck to her!
