I have no insurance. My employer offers insurance but it is so expensive that if I did have it I would have no way to take care of my child. However, I make to much to qualify for Medical Assistance programs. I've been told that I have to lose weight or be in a wheelchair the rest of my life. This surgery could very well save my life.    — Jeannie W. (posted on July 9, 2001)

Some surgeons, I'm not sure how many, do have what I believe they refer to as media patients who they operate on pro bono. I recently read about one of Dr Fobi's patients, Rick, who had wls done pro bono. But he weighed like 800 pounds. I'm not sure if that's the only criterion or what other criteria there are. His website is www.ricksstory.com in case you want to read about and possibly contact him. All the best.
