Question:
AM i eating to much?

I am 9 days post op and it feels as if they didn't do the operation. Although i know they did I am having terrible craving and can eat still. Even though it may be an ounce of food at a time I am scared. FOr example yesterday I had cream of chix 2 oz, had some soy nuts which I ended up getting sick on, some beef jerky 1oz and about 10 cheezeits... what is going on? why am i not suppose to eat solids? THey go down find. I am not getting full. I am drinking ALOT of water in between.HELP!    — Jennifer L. (posted on July 21, 2001)

One of the reasons that you are able to eat what seems like a lot of food is because the liquids run right through you. The reason you are not supposed to eat solids yet, is because the opening to your new tummy is only about the size of a pencil eraser and if you eat anything solid whether well chewed or not, you take the chance of blocking your opening. The reason you do not feel full yet is because of the soup. Any time you eat only liquids, you will always be able to eat more and feel hungry sooner because it washes out sooner. Hope this helps.

You need to make better choices with the food you are eating. At first I had to eat every 2 hours, soup, cream of wheat, jello. Just eat often and soft things. I am almost 7 weeks post-op and was on liquid for 6 weeks. I cant imagine eating jerky. Give your new tummy time to heal. Be nice to it lol. Good luck and hang in there, things really do get better.
