Question:
Can you shower with the staples in?

How soon can you take a shower with the staples in. I don't feel human unless I am showered and I know it will make me feel better. Can you take one in the hospital? Thanks!    — Kris T. (posted on August 16, 2001)

I did shower in the hospital and at home with the staples in. Now, granted, I didn't take a shower until day 3 when I really "woke up." They probably are not going to let you shower until they do the leak test and everything, but you can certainly ask. When I asked I had the feeling I could have done it earlier, but I was too busy sleeping!

Hello- I took a shower as soon as I got home. I dont feel human until I have a shower also. I made sure that I didnt totally drench my staples, and tried not to get soap on them, and I did need my husband to stay close to the shower in case I fell or something. But no, it doesnt hurt to take a shower. Good Luck to you!

Yes. I put a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in my shower and poured some over the stitches after my shower every day. It cleans out the germs and I never had any problems with the incision.

I also took a shower day two at the hospital with my staples, But on Day 4 I did water aerobics with my staples, your incision closes very fast and is HELD closed with the staples. You can get them wet or whatever you feel like doing. If you have any doubts ask your Doctor.

I HAD MY WIFE GET ME A SMALL MAKE UP BRUSH, AND USED ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP. I LATHERED UP LIKE I WAS GOING TO SHAVE BUT USED IT ON THE STAPLES. IT IS SOFT AND DOESN'T HURT THEM NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU LATHER. I STARTED THIS 3 DAYS POST OP, AND HAD NO PROBLEMS.
