Question:
am i supposed to be this tired and weak at 13 days post op

i dont know if this is normal or not... i am 13 days post op and seem to be getting more tired every day. i dont want to do anything but sleep. i dont think its depression because mentally i am doing much better than when i got home and started the liquid diet. i had open RNY. other than being tired, food also seems to make me have a stomach ache after eating soup and sometimes even water makes me uncomfortable. please, if anyone knows if this is normal or not, let me know.    — Trisha W. I had the same problem and it finally has gotten better in my 5th week post op. I had surgery on 8/6 and returned to work 8/13 and could have easily fallen asleep at my desk by noon, but it has slowly but surely gotten better.

Hello, I had surgery on July 20th and believe me, I was so tired the first 6 weeks. I thought I would never get my energy back. It is amazing what a couple of weeks will do for you. I do still get tired, but nothing like the first few weeks after surgery. Also, if you are still on pain meds, that will contribute. I lived on my pain meds until it was all gone! I needed it. As far as liquids, I still sometimes have problems with them. Especially water for some reason. Just give yourself time to heal, and rest if you have to and take slow sips throughout the day. Good luck.

This all sounds very normal to me. I think my second week was much harder than my first. It felt like that was when my bodied started to really miss the food and protein and everything it was used to. I also had many stomach discomforts from many things, including water. I suggest trying different bottled waters till you find one you like. Also try to avoid super cold water, that seemed to irritate my pouch more even though it tasted better. All of this will improve, but you need some time to recover.

Ditto, just when you get soooo tired of being weak and tired, it will suddenly get better. Hang in there.

I am 6 weeks post-op and still very tired. Each week does improve though. Not leaps and bounds, but at least baby steps.
