It may give you diarrhea because of the sugar in the milk
& fat can make you gain weight?

I drink it with no problem. Not much and not every day, but I do drink it.
Since I don't consume a lot of milk, I would end up wasting skim milk if I
bought it. My family drinks 2% and so do I.I'm almost 3 months post-op.

If you can tolerate it, I don't see any problems with it. However, there
are some that are strongly against milk post-op because of the sugar
content. I believe it is fine in such a small quantity.

Pre-op there was not much I loved more than a cold glass of milk (with
cookies or something sweet of course). Three weeks post -op I drank a glass
of milk and swore never again! It was my first dumping experience and not
something I want to do over again. I think now ( 6 months post-op) I could
probably handle a few sips, but it is just not worth it. Good luck to
you!!!

I think it's really up to the individual person's tolerance. I personally
drink one to two glasses of 2% daily. First of all, it's a great source of
protein. Two glasses is half my intake for the day, and as I can't eat a
lot yet, this is helpful. Secondly, it is a good source of calcium.
Despite some views on this board, my doctor said I do absorb this type of
calcium. My readings have all been good, and I do not have the makings of
osteo. The fat may bother some people, I just suggest working up to it. I
started with skim, then went to 1% because it was just too watery. But
finally my taste buds (when they were back in shape) insisted a return to
2%. Does the milk sugar and fat stop weight loss? Doesn't appear to so
far. Down 150 pounds in 6 months. Later? I don't know, but I don't plan
on drinking this much once I can eat more. Just once in awhile. And my
nutritionist said all of these "warnings" about milk sugar are a
bunch of bunk. She said she'd like to talk to a few people here. Hehe.
Milk does a body good, you know? Best of luck.

Skim or 1% have the same ammount of protein and calcium..just lesss fat and
calories. Lactose free milk may be good, as post-op lactose intolerance is
common.

I dump on milk (skim & 1%) even Lactaid! I cant even do sugar free
yogurt. I have tried that new Carb Countdown but it also made me feel
"funny" so I stay away from that too. But I have several friends
that are post-op that have no problems what any dairy products. That just
goes to show ya what works for one person may no work for you. Good luck to
you. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 140+ and below goal

For me, milk will make me dump. Too much sugar.

I can use an ounce or so in coffee, but more will have me dyin', 'cuz I'm
also severely lactose intolerant because of surgery. Bloated, gassy,
crampy, miserable. THen diarrhea for a day.

And, it will slow down my weight loss, cause carb cravings, and keep me
fatter.

I use Better Than Milk (from VitaLady.com) or Mocha Mix.

I also dump on milk, but I can tolerate about 4oz of fat free or skim milk
anything more I still dump.
