Question:
Do any of you drink the predigested liquid protein?
I am 7 weeks post op from open RNY & am having so much trouble getting my protein in. I am lucky if I get in 10-15 grams a day. I found some sites on liquid protein & am thinking about buying some but would like opinions on it. Thanks Lori — [Anonymous] (posted on January 13, 2002)

Hi Lori,
Two weeks ago my nutritionist had us try the liquid protein at our support
group. Its not that bad, kind of citrusy. I plan on asking my surgeon for
a prescription for it. If you check out (which you probably already did)
www.llorenspharm.com, they have an excellent liquid protein. Please search
the site because you can find a pharmacy under the distributors link in
your area. Maybe you can get a prescription for it. The 16oz. bottle is
$12, I think. You need about 4 bottles a month to get 30gms of protein a
day 2servings/2tsp per day=30gms. Good luck, hope this helps!

If you don't like the taste of the protein shake, you're either not trying
the right kind, or you're not being creative in your recipes.
www.vitalady.com sells samples of the various protein drinks and
suggestions on how to mix them. My latest concotion came from a friend. 1
scoop of Sci Fit Peanut Butter Cup, 4 oz water, 4 oz skim milk (milk has
sugar so you may want to use just a splash), 1 tsp peanut butter. Now,
there are proteins that taste great with just water. Such as, ProBlend 55
Mocha Cappucino blended in 4 oz of water with crushed ice. Then there are
the ones that taste like medicine but are only 2 oz for 30 grams, like
CherAmino (made by Twinlab). GNC has a policy that will allow you to
return the unused portion of the protein if you don't like the taste. I
haven't had to do that but I hear they are fair. I belong to a list of
people who drink these shakes regularly and the majority like the ProBlend
55. Also several like Extreme Pure Pro in Grape (I don't). I also like
Designer Chocolate that I use for the peanut butter formula above. Lastly,
if you find that a powder you bought tastes too "proteiny" try
using coffee to mix it with (the coffee must be cold though). Coffee kills
the taste of any protein. Sweeten the coffee with some splenda. Good luck
and God Bless!

I, too, had problems getting the protein down. I tried Challenge Wild
Cherry Liquid Protein from GNC, and it isn't bad at all. I put a little
sweet n low in it and to me it tastes like cherry kool aid. Good luck!

I am using a product from GNC that is chocolate (I can;t remember the name)
but I am mixing that with crushed ice, skim milk and I throw in some
instant coffee (the flavored kind like cafe mocha that is sugar free). This
ends up tasting like a mocha milk shake. I have tried the Pure Pro stuff
and almost gagged on it. I have also used a banana in the chocolate and it
is wonderful.

GNC Challenge brand wild cherry liquid protein is the ONLY thing I have
been able to tolerate long term. If you get a gold card at GNC the first 7
days of the month(I think) you get 20% off. I just bought 2-32 oz bottles
for 25.00 with tax. 3 tablespoons=18 grams of protein, 90 calories, 5g
carbs and 5g sugars. I drink mine with water, tastes like watered down
koolaid.
