Question:
Very slow weight loss 6 weeks post-op.

I am not sure if this is normal or I am doing anything wrong. I can eat almost anything but try very hard to be good. I can eat about 3-4 oz at a time. I have lost only 24 lbs. I know this is still good but it seems like everybody has greater loss. I am 5'5" and started at 240. I am getting a little crazy about this and any help would be wonderful!    — Andrea P. Hey, Andrea, don't lose heart. I too had a very slow weight loss at first. But mine was for about 10 weeks. I am 5' 6" and started out at 258. I had a lap rny. Unlike you I wasn't able to eat hardly at all!! I still only lost 24 lbs the first 10 weeks. But then, after that it just started falling off. I believe the less we have to lose, the slower it is. I also think some people's bodies are so effecient that they don't want to let go of the fat because of all of the years of dieting. I have no medical proof, but this is my opinion. Anyway, after the first 10 weeks i really started to lose. My surgery was 9/27/01. I have now lost 60 lbs. !!!!! But I have lost the majority of it since Dec. 15th. So hang in there! By the way, what kind of surgery did you have? e-mail if you would like/ e-mail: [email protected]

Hi! I don't really have an answer for you, but I wanted to let you know that you aren't alone. I could have written this question. I am 3.5 weeks post op, and have only lost 18lbs. I have about 130 to lose total, but I thought I'd be losing faster (I, too, can eat pretty much anything, but I've been making the healthy choices). The only thing I can come up with is that I'm not getting enough water in to flush everything out... I'm sure it will catch up with me soon, you as well. Keep up the good work! :)

Hello and welcome to the 'slow losers' club! I am 8, almost nine weeks out and have lost about 58 lbs. This weight loss has come in the last 2 or so weeks. Initially I couldn't lose any weight to save my life. My surgeon reminded me I was a 'lightweight' compared to most he operates on. I was 5'7" and 266. He told me the more you have to lose the faster if comes off, those of us who have less to lose lose slower. It is simple physiology. Don't fret though, it DOES come off! Think about it this way, you are losing and not gaining! I know most of my life was spent gaining and any loss is a good one. Hang in there it will get better! Amy
