Question:
Embarrasing Question/Has this happened to anyone?

The other day I had flatulence and released a smelly, oily discharge similar to when I was on Xenical. I never knew this was a side effect of this surgery. The only thing I had eaten the night before was 1/2 a lean turkey lunchable (all of the cheese) apx. 13 grams of fat. I never had this happen before. Even when I ate mayonnaise. Anyone have this happen and will it continue?    — Gay S. (posted on April 26, 2002)

The same food affects us differently at different times. On day I can eat garlic and the next it will make me throw up or pass mucho wind. It's a long strange trip we have put ourselves on. --Good Luck

I may have to do with the type of surgery that you had. I have read that some surgeries will cause you to have the symptoms that you are having. I read it on this site somewhere in the section on types of surgery.

Ha! Hahahahaha. Just had to laugh. Been there. Until we figure out our new plumbing and what works like Drano and what has the opposite effect it's a crapshoot... pun intended. And while advice from me or another Postie can help, what affects your body will be uniquely yours. It's all trial and error.... unfortunately error sometimes. It helps to keep a panty-liner handy or an extra change of short and a zip-lock bag for the dirty shorts. Eventually you will get your bodily reactions down to a science. Meanwhile, try to laugh. It helps. Best wishes.

I'm laughing too! The same thing happened to me! Actually, it didn't happen when I farted, it happened when I went to the bathroom. I noticed the orange-oily stuff in the toilet. This has happened to me twice...over the same food. Every time it has happened to me I ate crab dipped in BUTTER! I think it was the high oil-fat content. My daughter likes the lunchables, but I believe the cheese is a little oily~that's probably what gotcha. Good Luck

I have had that happen a number of times since my surgery. I am a year out. the first time it happened i had eaten a Aktins Chocolate crunch bar. The second time it happened after eating sugar free snackwell cookies. I have discovered it is sugar free items that make that happen to me. I dont eat them anymore and had no problems since.

Oh yes , this has happened to me. My dad brought me a coffee from a coffee house place he frequents, and since I drink coffee everyday, thought nothing of it. Drank it, went out and had an accident about a half an hour later. I wasn't positive it was the coffee or something I had eaten prior, so the following weekend he came over with another, but THIS time I stayed home, lol, happened again. I guess those real strong coffee's just do it for me, but Folgers does nothing. Weird. I don't drink them anymore haha

If you are RNY or BPD, we malabsorb our fats & oils, to varying degress. I had "oil slicks" in the beginning, but not so much any more. Not sure if it was cuz I got smarter or my body got more efficient. My dh, though, still has them. It's gotta go somewhere! But as I said, not everyone manifests it all the time.
