Question:
LT PostOps...Odd question for ya

Ok...I checked the archives and cant believe this was never asked before...but leave it to me to want to know this lol I was wondering if after the weight loss do the vericose veins in your legs fade or go away or are we stuck with them the rest of our lives? Since we start out as over 400...it is more prevalent to have them due to mobility issues and circulation probs, isn't it? Or is it just me that has a bunch? I know you can have saline injections and such to get rid of them via plastic surgeon...but was wondering if weight loss alone does anything to lessen their appearance/get rid of them. Thanks! Hi! Don't you hate varicose veins? Yuck. I'm not a post-op yet, but thought I would offer this. In my case the VV are a gift from my mom, who recieved them from her mom, etc, etc. I know things like standing for extended periods of time and carrying extra weight will make them worse. I lost about 80 lbs once and my VV were still there, nasty as ever. While losing the weight might keep you from getting more, or getting them as bad, I don't think it will get rid of ones you already have. After surgery I'm definitely planning a trip to the plastic surgeon to get rid of the little beauties!!

Hi, I have the VV and they did not get better. They actually seem to have gotton worse. I think it is because I lost alot of fat in the legs area and so the veins seem bigger. I am having surgery to remove them because they hurt badly. I have had the removal done about 12 years ago, and because of my weight and family history, I now have more. I am post op of 2 years in November. I have lost 128 lbs and have had no trouble keeping it off. I am having one leag done at a time though because of the pain. I am not looking forward to the surgery but I will be glad to have them remove because of the pain they cause. So no the weight loss will not get rid of them, but for future ones it is better to be lighter, it is alot better for you legs. The ones I have were there before it is I just didn't see them because of the extra weight in the legs. I also had the injections before and it worked great, but the ones I am having removed anre to big for the injections, so I and removing them. I think sometime I just won't have any veins left. They just come from no where. I think that this time tho I am not so heavy so I won't have as much trouble. I went to the internet and research the veins stripping issues. Hope this helps Bonnie
