Question:
Any Remedy for Scar Discomfort When Wearing Slacks?

I am almost 5 weeks post op(open) and will be going back to work in about 3 weeks, my incision is SOOO uncomfortable when I wear pants, I can't stand to wear them, unless I am going somewhere. I have been putting neosporin on it. The pants rub my incision, and at work I will be doing a lot of bending, twisting, walking and general moving. I am a nursing assistant, and do Total patient care, some of these guys can't do ANYTHING! Your input will be appreciated.    — Tammy . (posted on October 18, 2002)

I don't know if this will help--but it's a suggestion. Have you ever tried pantyhose-type briefs? The ones I have purchased are from Legacy Legwear (QVC), but I know there are a lot of places that carry them now. They look like biker short and hold you in..kinda like a marriage between a girdle and pair of pantyhose. I would suggest getting a very AMPLE size an wearing that under your pants. If you get a very large size, you might be able to wear the waist right below your breasts and that might alleviate some of the rubbing. Also, if you were to wear these, you could probably put something under them over the incision ( thick cotton? guaze?) and thus help alleviate some of that rubbing sensation. Just a suggestion--hope it works!

When I first went back to work, I covered my incision for several weeks I just used gauze and it kept my pants from rubbing againt my incision.

a cheap home remedy is to put a mini-pad over the incision. The waste band should hold it in place - worked for me.
