Question:
I am definitely having a hard time getting in the 60Gms of protein
my surgeon reccomends. The shakes and bars just don't agree with me. Has any one out there tried "Proteinex" the liquid protein bannered at this site? I do not see it listed in our review. Any flavor? Is this an acceptable alternative for our protein intake or incompatible with our surgeries? (open RNY 11/14/02)Thanks gang--you're a wealth of information. — Wannabe A. I did buy it & was able to use when I was early post op. It tastes
worse than most anything that you can imagine. Now that I am eating
"normally" & able to get my protein from food-it is sitting
in my cupboard. I also used Isopure/0 carbs in the begining which tasted
pretty good. If I need to supplement now I grab a can of Atikens shake
& I like those. They have 20g protein & 1 g carbs. By this time
post op, you should be able to get the majority of your protein from
food-eating small meals more frequently with protein first. Best wishes in
your process.

Like the previous post I get mine from food as well. I never could do any
of the supplements. I eat a lot of tuna fish. It is loaded with protein.
Just one can (well drained) has 32.5grams of protein and 0 Carbs. At least
that's what the can says. Hope that helps.

Have you tried the koolaid looking types of protein drinks? Isopure Zero
Carb has a 40 grams of protein, 20 oz bottle that comes in different
flavors like blue rasberry and apple melon, which I used as an early
post-op when I could not handle the shakes yet. I found mine at Vitamin
Shoppes and you can also order on line but usually just by the case. I've
heard that there are other protein drinks out there that are not shakes
either, so visit your local vitamin shop and check it out. I used to cut
mine with a little water and put over ice and sip on it all day.

Everyone is different, so, I cannot say you will immediatley be able to get
yours' form food! For me, the first 6 wks, I ate whatever I could stomach
(I didn't care about protein content at this point)...For me, it was
getting comfortable with my new tummy. I drank 3 CIB's daily, then like a
night switch, at 6 wks, I could stomach meat, chicken, seafood, etc...I
have not had a protein shake since. I would hold off on buying alot of
expensive shakes you might not like...CIB SF is great and your protein
content IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT IN THE BEGINNING! If you wann try some
shakes, get some from Michele Curan (www.vitalady.com) she has samples for
1.99 of all the popular brands! Good Luck! Heather (8/15 - 305/224/150)

I'm not a real fan of either the drinks or the bars but recently I came
upon on a canned shake that I love. It is made by METRX-Ultra Pure Protein
35g Protein, 2g Carbs,
2g sugar, 1g fat and 160 calories per serving. It comes in 6 flavors.
