Both my husband and I have CPAPs (2 different brand machines). Both have meters on them--mine is on the bottom, his has an electronic read out. It tells the doctor how many hours the machine has run. I believe my husband's even lets them know the average length of time per use. Don't try and cheat--the machine really does help.

Why would you not want to use something that is going to possibly HELP KEEP YOU ALIVE???? Be thankful that your insurance covers it, be thankful that your doctors know enough to screen you for apnea. Frankly, I think it's just stupid to NOT use a CPAP if you need it. Honestly, if you do not have the patience/willpower to use it...or see the need to be compliant with your DOCTORS INSTRUCTIONS...what makes you think the post op life style will be something you can handle?

Don't mean to sound too harsh, but you are risking your life if you aren't using it and tell them that you are....plain and simple.

PLEASE do use your CPAP. It can save your life! My best friend, Ginger Brewster, on the memorial page of this website died because she had the surgery with untreated/undiagnosed sleep apnea. Please be safe! Best of luck to you.

I, for one, can understand where you are coming from. I am supposed to use cpap too but i am claustrophobic and the mask in addition to the air being forced up my nose sends me into panic attacks. But . mu pulmonologist said he wouldnt recommend me having the surgery until I'd gotten used to wearing it. Otherwise he told me he could put in a trach for 6 months to a year and I sure dont want that, so Im gonna try harder to get used to it. Most people dont have a problem with it, unfortunatly I do.
