Question:
5'3 / 226 lbs. / BMI 40 - Anyone else start here?

I am not one of those losers that typically compare or measure my progress by others... but, I would be interested to speak with those that started where I did. Anyone out there willing to share their experiences / tips with me? — Kim T. (posted on March 26, 2004)

Hi there. I am 4 months post-op and was CLOSE to your weight. I am 5'1" and weighed 248 when I went in, BMI 47. I was 4 months out 5 days ago and weighed 187 this morning, so down 61 lbs.!! It is SO totally worth it. I am hoping to lose the full 120 lbs. and being half way there at 4 months feels great. I know it will start to get harder, though. The past month I hit a "platau" but just the past 2 weeks have picked up a little. I go to Curves at least 3 times a week, which I LOVE. If you have any other questions you can e-mail me. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Hi Kim, I started at 5'3" 251. I am 5 months out & weigh 185. 66 Lbs down & feeling great. I have been losing consistantly the whole time. Every month, 2 weeks are slow the other 2 I drop lbs. I eat 3 times a day, mostly protein. 1 protein drink in the morning - 1 in the afternoon & of course vitamins, iron & calcium. Sometimes is feels slow compared to others but I'm very happy as long as it keeps coming off. Judy

I'm 5'3 and had a start weight of 243 lbs. My surgery was 7/14/03 and by 11/25/03 I was down to 163 lbs but also found out that I was 13 weeks pregnant. So I managed to lose 80lbs in 4 months and most of that time I was pregnant and didn't know it. I am now 7 1/2 months pregnant and have gained 19lbs.

Hi there. I'm a fellow shortie, measuring in at 5'1" and I started at 227, BMI was 43 (I think). I've lost weight extremely slowly (i'm almost 9 months out and have lost 78 lbs). I encourage you to read my profile, but more importantly, read my post (which *should* show up soon) entitled Important information for shorties (5'3" or under) OR lose slow/plateau often! In it, I discuss important information short people or slow losers should know about their Resting Metabolic Rate ("RMR") and how it can help you to understand why you lose slowly or are not losing at all. Good luck to you! (Open PROXIMAL Rny, 7/7/03, 227/149/127)

Thanks for this post!!! 5'3, started at 251, down to 233 4 1/2 weeks postop. I love reading about others who are the same or similar stats....it helps keep it in perspective! I've been walking and I eat my protein of course. Not too many tips because I'm just learning myself!! Good luck to you :)

Wow... thank you all so much for sharing. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUCCESS...doesn't it feel great?? For the first time, in so many years... I feel completely comfortable in my skin. I'm amazed at my high-energy level, the fact that I smile all of the time, don't sweat the small stuff and have such a love for Christ that it consumes me. I feel so blessed. I wish all of you happiness and health. God bless you all. ~~ Kimmie in Texas ([email protected])

Kim...HI There..I'm 5ft3in too, but my starting weight was 322. I will be 2yrs out on June 10 and I now weigh 166. I have gone from a size 32 in pants and a 3-4x in tops to a size large in tops and size 14/large in pants. If I don't lose anymore weight I will be happy where I am at now. But good luck in journey.

I'm 5'2 and started out at 248 - BMI of 44. I weigh 125 pounds now at almost 2 1/2 year post-op. I lost all of my weight in about 10 months. Granted, that was working out 5 days a week for about 8 months and having a tt but it was VERY well worth it. Exercise and watching your calorie content are the keys.

Hi Kim, I am so glad you posted this question. I know we are told not to compare, but I am always looking for someone that started out about my same size. I am 5'2", starting weight 230, BMI 41, my surgery was 10-2-03. This Friday I will be 6 months post op. I have lost 70 lbs. I think this seems kind of slow. That's just my opinion. I exercise almost everyday. I have a gym where I work and I go at lunch and walk on a treadmill 2.5 miles. Last week I was off, I walked an hour at 4 miles everyday. I drink my 64 ozs of water a day. I eat what I am suppose to protein, vegs, fruits, and limit carbs. My goal is to be at 126 by October(1 yr).

Hi Kim. I am 30 yrs old. Started out 5'0" with a weight of 220 lbs. My BMI was 43. Tomorrow will be my 1 yr post-op anniversary. I am still 5'0", but my weight is now 130 lbs. I'm scheduled for a skin removal/abdominalplasty surgery. I really am happy at the weight I am now, but would prefer my body without all the excess skin. Once that is gone, I'm sure I'll find something else to worry about. (Hee hee) I always do! (smiles) No, honestly though, I believe I shouldn't lose anymore than 5-10 more lbs. That would be my limit. I want to continue looking young and healthy. I think that would start changing if I lost too much more weight. I wish you much luck and success! Thanks for the question!
