Question:
Have you went in for wls and came out with a hernia repair and asked to reschedule?

I went in for a lap rny and to my surprise when I woke up the Dr said he found a hernia and fixed it with some kind of dissolvable disc and then told me to reschedule my appointment for wls in 8wks. Has anyone ever encountered this?    — toomuch (posted on April 5, 2005)

Sorry that happened to you. When I went in for my RNY, we knew there was a hernia where the incision is. I had my gallbladder out 20 years before and the incision for that surgery went from my breastbone to bellybutton. My surgeon removed the old scar, did the RNY, and fixed the hernia all at once. I've never heard of a dissolvable disc, just the mesh. Hugs.

Something doesn't seem right to me. I had two hernias when I had my gastric bypass, and the surgeon fixed them at the same time as he did the rny. I think this is per norm.

When I had my RNY in August, the surgeon repaired my umbilical hernia when I had my surgery. Didn't know I had a hernia until surgery, sounds kinda weird, but mine was open, does it really matter though?
