Question:
Why is this not more popular with docs and patients?

I am waiting approval. Meantime I am shopping surgery types. The Dist bypass w/DS sounds like the best to me, however it is disconcerting that only 1 doc in N. CAL does it. Does anybody know the negatives with this?    — joroclo (posted on August 21, 1999)

I had this surgery done by Dr. Rabkin in California. You are right, this does sound like the best one around. I thought it was as well, and after hearing about the problems others have, I think it is the best. His clinic has fantastic results, with people keeping the weight off for years (met one who was 13 years post-op, who looked and felt fantastic). My aunt's sister had the same surgery, same surgeon, and has nothing but praise. His clinical case coordinator is 2-years post-op, and looks/feels fantastic. Sure, if you eat lots of sugar stuff, you will come close to dumping, and the pain post-op is comparable, but I really do think it is the best surgery. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
