Question:
I need help with my diet.

This is the first stage of this WLS. My doctor has me on creamed soups, jello, puddings, yogurt, and liquids. I'm tired of cream of chicken soup, I can't stomach it anymore. I don't want the broth. I need variety. I want veggies and real food. What am I to do? — Kim T. (posted on June 8, 2000)

After I grew very tired of broth or the liquid off soups like chicken noodle and beef noodle.. I started making my own veggie and beef or chicken stock soup.(of course I only had the liquid part) but the family ate the rest.. It was so much more flavorful than canned soup.. I kept a crockpot going all the time with some sort of soup or stew.. If any liquid was left over I froze it in small 2 oz containers.. here is a link to my surgeons food list, maybe you will see something you like on it.. Husted's Food List

Gastric Bypass Information, recipes and support page
Try Progresso "Beef Barley" in the blender. Its really beefy and tastes good, like real food! It helped get me through the liquid stage.

Just hang in there. I too just got off all the delicious foods you are now enjoying. I dreamed of cottage cheese and mashed potatoes for 2 weeks. Thank god I can now have them, but I do miss bread and butter, coke, and meats. The meats will come later on. Just hang in there as everyone keeps telling me it will get better.

Hi there. I know where you're coming from. For the first month practically, I fell asleep dreaming of food...prime rib, potatoes, chips, you name it...if I couldn't have it, I went to bed salivating over it. Do be careful about adding new foods too quickly. It's not worth the hurling you'll do later, trust me...or the pain you'll feel as it works it's way through your pouch, etc...if you're not ready. A good soup: Clean and cut a head of cauliflower into small pieces. Sautee in a large pan with about 2 T of margarine. Once it starts to brown a bit, add 2 cans of low sodium chicken broth (24 oz total). Cook on a medium heat, covered...until the cauliflower is soft. Then use a hand held blender (like a Braun) and blend the cauliflower until it is smooth. Add about 6 oz of colby/jack cheese (grated)...stir until it melts. This is delicious and very satisfying to the soul. Word of caution!! Check with your dr before adding veggies, 'kay? Good luck

Do you like Campbell's Fiesta Chili Beef or Bean with Bacon? Both puree wonderfully, retaining their full flavor. What about very soft mashed potatoes? Those can be given some zip by adding spinach, basil, parsley, garlic, any number of things. Simply using Sour Cream or whipping cream instead of milk sparks them up.
