Hi there I too am post op 12-17-99 and still have a problem with hair loss not nothing compared to the beginning ofcourse but my hair has not returned to normal by far as a matter of fact my hair use to be super curly now I'm lucky if I have a wave left to it. Sorry the news isn't good but I am just one case. I'm sure there are people out there who have had there hair grow back to normal. Take care Ann

I just yesterday started using Nioxin to try and combat my hair loss. I found it recomended by a couple of people on the internet who have had WLS. It was recommended to use the cleanser (shampoo), the scalp therapy (conditioner) and Cytogen treatment (a mousse used by chemotherapy patients). They both said they had excellent results. It is best to buy it from a licensed salon to be sure you get the good products. The scalp therapy makes your scalp tingle and can turn the skin slightly red but it goes away quickly and is a normal effect. The salon I bought mine from highly recommended it. I have used it every morning since I bought it and my hair has alot more volume and shine. Although I've only used it 2 days so far, I didn't feel there was as much hair flying around when I blow dried by hair this AM. The 3 products cost me about $65 but it will last 2 to 3 months. You can read about the products by going to www.nioxin.com. Good luck!

I belong to another Support Group on the internet and it was suggested to take ZINK for hair loss. I just started taking it today. I will let you know how it works for me.

I have been having quite a bit of hair loss too. I am seven months post-op. I had hair to the middle of my back. I had it cut to a little above my shoulders. I could never pull off short hair before the surgery but 112 pounds down and it's pretty cute. It is also a lot less distressing to see 10" of hair falling out from the root than 20". I make sure I keep my protein intake up and I take extra folic acid. It seems to help. My surgeon says about 10% of patients experience hair loss and that after the first year it grows back. I haven't heard of anyone going bald but I know my hair is about half as thick as it used to be. I think I can live with thinner hair and a healthier body! :^) [just as long as ALL of it doesn't fall out]
